The New York Rangers haven't had the season they had hoped for up to this point after winning the Presidents' Trophy and reaching the Eastern Conference Finals last year. Through 58 games, they have just 62 points and are on the outside looking in when it comes to the NHL playoff picture.
Things didn't get any better for them on Wednesday. The Rangers had no choice but to place defenseman Adam Fox on injured reserve after he suffered an upper-body injury during their 5-1 win over the New York Islanders on Tuesday night.
Peter Baugh of The Athletic reported, "Adam Fox is going on injured reserve. He will be out for 'a little bit,' I’m told, but the Rangers are confident he will be back for the stretch run of the season."
TSN's Pierre LeBrun added, "Doesn't look season-ending for Fox, he will be out a bit. Whether or not he needs a procedure or not remains TBD."

The injury occurred in the third period after he landed on his shoulder during a collision. The 27-year-old was quick to head off the ice and didn't return.
This is a tough blow for the Rangers at a pivotal point in the season. Their No. 1 defenseman joins center Adam Edstrom on the Rangers’ injured reserve. As a result of the move, the team recalled defenseman Matthew Robertson from their AHL affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack.
Now in his sixth NHL season, Fox has tallied five goals and 43 assists so far this year.
