Raiders Coaching Staff List Is Missing One Notable Name - suong

One of Antonio Pierce's key hires last year was bringing in Marvin Lewis as assistant head coach. The former Cincinnati Bengals head coach had a wealth of experience for Pierce to draw from but that's less necessary now that Pete Carroll is leading the team.

However, there were rumors that Lewis was safe and set to return. That doesn't appear to be happening anymore. The Raiders announced their full coaching staff on Tuesday and Lewis' name was notably missing.

This almost certainly means that Las Vegas has decided to part ways with the veteran coach. Lewis is a strong defensive mind but so is defensive coordinator Patrick Graham and Carroll. Lewis' skillset may have been a bit redundant.

With the Raiders moving on, Lewis will have to decide on next steps. He was one of the top defensive coordinators in the NFL before becoming a head coach but hasn't been in that position at the NFL level in over two decades.

Lewis is 66 so he could consider retirement or perhaps move back to the college level. Going to another NFL team as a defensive advisor may also be a logical move. It's unlikely he'll be looking at a head coaching job again despite a successful run leading the Bengals.
