The Las Vegas Raiders had a bye this past week, but it wasn't just a time for relaxation and recovery.
Following the team's Week 9 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, offensive coordinator Luke Getsy was shown the door. He wasn't the only coach that the team parted ways with, as they also let go of quarterbacks coach Rich Scangarello and offensive line coach James Cregg, all of which had been with the team for just this season.
The Raiders promoted passing game coordinator Scott Turner to offensive coordinator, and also brought in his father and NFL veteran coach, Norv Turner, as an advisor. With all of the changes around the staff, some expected that there might be a different starter at quarterback, but Antonio Pierce made his decision public on Wednesday.
Pierce confirmed to the media that Gardner Minshew would be starting for the team against the Miami Dolphins for Sunday's Week 11 game, after he was benched in that Bengals game in favor of Desmond Ridder.
According to Tashan Reed of The Athletic, Pierce emphasized giving Minshew more confidence even though he's been benched multiple times.
"Minshew has already been benched three times," Reed wrote. "Pierce said the coaching staff needs to do a better job of instilling confidence in him."
On the year, Minshew has thrown for 1,501 yards with six touchdowns to eight picks.
The Raiders are currently sitting at 2-7 on the year and are slated to get the No. 5 pick in the NFL Draft if it were today. The quarterback position has been an issue all season, but clearly, they have nowhere else to turn.
