With 11-6, Jordan Love’s team, the Green Bay Packers, are going to face off against the 14-3 Philadelphia Eagles. They are slated to meet each other on Sunday, January 12 at 4:30pm ET at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. But before it, the Birds have an important announcement to make.
On Friday, MLFootball shared the Eagles’s new update on X. The post wrote: “NEWS: The #Eagles will be wearing this new midnight green uniform combination for this week’s playoff game” against the Packers. Along with this, it also shared a poster of the Eagles team, wearing the midnight green jersey and white bottoms, paired with their team’s helmet and cleats.
It seems the Eagles are keeping everything to the point for the wild-card game – be it practice or any superstition. Many think this move of changing the jersey might be a superstitious call by Philly. Why? Well, let’s look at the stats and guess the reason.
Over the past two seasons, the Eagles are 9-5 games in this midnight green jersey. So, that means, overall they have a 0.642 winning percentage with outfits. But the interesting fact here is, till September 2024 data, Philly has won seven games consecutively (the longest active in the team’s history).
This midnight green jersey, which was introduced in 1996, is a darker shade with hints of cyan and far closer to teal color. Originally, this color represents a sense of freedom and trust, a perfect match for fans’s belief in the Eagles. So, now it remains to be seen how far the Eagles, especially with their star player Saquon Barkley, are able to keep their admirers’s trust in the playoffs.
Sunday’s NFC wildcard game is shaping up to be a showdown to remember. In the season finale, Jordan Love injured his right elbow, and since then it has been speculated whether he will play in the playoffs or not. On the other hand, Jalen Hurts suffered a concussion and left a December 22 game against the Commanders. He too was doubted for the game. But here’s the good news.
Both Jordan Love and Jalen Hurts are cleared to play for their first playoff game of this season. Yes, after a week of uncertainty, it’s officially clear. Love has been struggling lately, with a passer rating of just 87.0 in his last three games. Hurts, meanwhile, hasn’t played a full game since mid-December due to a concussion. Both quarterbacks have something to prove. No doubt, both teams are feeling the pressure.
The Packers lost their top receiver, Christian Watson, who suffered a season-ending knee injury in the season finale. While the Eagles’ key players, A.J. Brown (knee) and Devonta Smith (back issues), are battling injuries but are still expected to play. Let’s see who wins this one!
