Pete Wicks hints at wanting a girlfriend who ‘will never leave’ after Maura Higgins split - suong

Pete Wicks has hinted he wants a girlfriend who will “never leave” after his reported split from Maura Higgins.

Pete, 36, was first romantically linked to former Love Island star Maura late last year. It came as the pair were spotted sharing a passionate kiss in August.

Maura further fuelled speculation about a relationship between the pair when she left a comment on Pete’s Instagram page following news he had signed up for Strictly Come Dancing. Appearing to poke fun at the rumoured romance, she wrote: "I know what those hips can do. Proud of you."

During an afterparty at the Pride of Britain Awards in October the pair once again shared a kiss. They are said to have made it clear to onlookers at the venue's Red Bar that they were an item.

While she appeared on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! Maura, 34, opened up about her strong feelings for Pete. The pair however never confirmed their relationship.

Earlier this year, the Mail Online claimed they decided they were “better off friends”. A source said: “Maura and Pete have decided to call off their romance. There have been a few clashes, and it was eventually agreed they were better off as friends.

“Those closest to them know it's been a very on and off relationship, which is why they were so resistant to go public in the first place. They remain close and share a deep connection."

Now on his Staying Relevant podcast with best friend Sam Thompson, Pete has joked he would like a girlfriend who “doesn’t leave”. It came as former Made in Chelsea star Sam and Pete discussed their recent visit to see ABBA Voyage.

The concert sees the Swedish band depicted by virtual avatars designed to appear like they did in 1979. Commenting about the performance, Sam said: “It was so cool, big stadium as well, they must have been nervous…they were holograms so they wouldn't be nervous.”

Pete joked that he “doesn’t think they have feelings” to which Sam explained he thought they “looked like they did” due to the life-like nature of the avatars.

It led the 32-year-old to say he thinks people in the future could have holographic partners. He said: “That is what AI is going to look like in the future. People are going to have girlfriends like that.”

Pete, possibly referencing his alleged relationship with Maura, said: “Things are looking up. We can create one - that will never leave.”

Pete recently revealed he spent Valentine’s Day “moving house” instead of with a partner. In a previous podcast episode, Sam said Pete had “spent a lot of time in the press,” quizzing his pal about his Valentine’s plans.

Pete responded: “Don’t believe everything you read. For my Valentine’s, I’ve moved house.”
