Patriots legend blames Tom Brady for Jets being in disarray

Tom BradyThe New York Jets are 2-5 through the first seven weeks of the season. Davante Adams didn’t make an immediate impact after being traded from the Las Vegas Raiders while Aaron Rodgers has blamed his wide receivers for running the wrong routes in Week 6 before he blamed the Jets media for their ugly start.

If you ask a three-time New England Patriots Super Bowl champion, though, he’s putting the blame on someone else.

“You’ve got to blame Tom Brady for this. He goes over to Tampa Bay and wins a Super Bowl and now everyone thinks they can do it,” Julian Edelman said during his appearance on “The Herd With Colin Cowherd. “The Rams go up two years later and do the same kind of thing. So this is kind of a new wrinkle in the league where teams are trying to buy the Super Bowl.”

After Brady won six Super Bowls in New England, he won his seventh in his first year with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He had his longtime target in Rob Gronkowski after he came out of retirement to rejoin the quarterback, while also having targets like Mike Evans.

Brady’s first year in Tampa Bay didn’t start off strong, nor did Matthew Stafford’s first season with the Rams. Rodgers’ first season with the Jets lasted four plays before he tore his Achilles in Week 1, and Year 2 has been worse with a healthy Rodgers under center.

Edelman believes some of the Jets’ issues stem from not having a lot of chemistry and pointed to Rodgers not putting a big emphasis on the offseason.

“They’re gonna run out of time. I feel bad, but you know that’s why it’s important in the offseason to nail down crucial fundamentals that you will lean on subconsciously when it’s a stressful time,” Edelman said. “That’s where I see a lot of their problems.”

The season is nearly halfway over, but there’s still time for the Jets to right the ship. They can get back in the win column in Week 8 when they play the Patriots — a team they already beat once this year.
