Drake Maye wrapped up his impressive debut season with several Patriots rookie records, and now he can truly put an exclamation mark on the campaign.
The NFL announced on Tuesday that the New England Patriots quarterback is officially a Pro Bowler, as he will replace Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson. The MVP heavyweight has not played in a Pro Bowl since his first nod in 2019.
Maye rounds out an AFC quarterback room that includes the Bengals' Joe Burrow and the Steelers' Russell Wilson (who replaced the Bills' Josh Allen). It's worth noting that the Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes was not a viable candidate for a seventh straight Pro Bowl nod since he's set to play in Super Bowl LIX.
Despite not starting until Week 4 and attempting just one pass in Week 18, Maye put up massive numbers. He completed 66.6% of his passes for 2,276 yards with 15 touchdowns and 10 interceptions for an 88.1 passer rating. He also added 421 rushing yards (64.8% success rate) and two touchdowns on 54 rushing attempts.
Maye also became the first Pats rookie quarterback to toss a touchdown in eight straight games, among other impressive feats.
Notably, Maye is the first New England rookie selected to a Pro Bowl since Mac Jones in 2021 — another first-round pick QB wearing No. 10. The Patriots are hoping that Maye has a much longer and more successful tenure than Jones, who only started 25 more games after his rookie season before the Pats traded him to the Jacksonville Jaguars for a sixth-round draft pick.
