Packers Make Notable Quarterback Move Before Playoff Game vs. Eagles - suong

In just over 24 hours the Green Bay Packers will take the field for a battle against the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC's wild card round.

Ahead of the contest questions about both starting quarterbacks abounded in the days leading into the game. Star quarterback Jalen Hurts hadn't practiced in two weeks before returning to the field this week and clearing concussion protocol.

Packers quarterback Jordan Love, meanwhile, was dealing with his own injury after suffering an elbow injury during the regular-season finale against the Chicago Bears. Both he and backup quarterback Malik Willis were banged up this week, which led to an interesting quarterback move from the team.

Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur talks with quarterback Jordan Love (10) during the second quarter against the Los Angeles Rams at Lambeau Field.

Green Bay signed former Penn State star quarterback Sean Clifford from the team's practice squad in order to be an emergency quarterback on Sunday.

"The Green Bay Packers have signed QB Sean Clifford from the practice squad to the active roster. General Manager Brian Gutekunst announced the transaction Saturday. Clifford has been on the Packers' practice squad all season and was a gameday elevation twice. As a rookie in 2023 he played in two regular season games and one postseason contest for Green Bay," the team said in a statement on Saturday afternoon.

While Clifford has seen playing time in three games, he's only thrown one pass in his NFL regular season career, which was completed for 37 yards. He's unlikely to see the field with both Love and Willis cleared to play, but the added insurance is a must come playoff time.

Philadelphia enters Sunday afternoon's game as a five-point favorite after initially being listed as a 3.5-point favorite, according to ESPN Bet.

The Eagles and Packers kick off at 4:30 p.m. ET on Fox.
