One Low-Risk, High-Reward Free Agent the New York Rangers are set to target this offseason

TheRangers will have to be smart this offseason. While the temptation to overspend will be there GM Chris Drury will have to look at depth additions at a value, and they could find one in pending UFA and former Columbus Blue Jacket, James Van Riemsdyk.James Van Riemsdyk

The New York Rangers are looking to add talent across the board and will need to spend within their means to not only add to their depth but their top-six.
While Brock Boeser and Nikolaj Ehlers remain targets for the squad, they should focus on players who aren't looking for significant term, and could add value at a lower cost.
That could be former Columbus Blue Jackets forward James Van Riemsdyk.

While they're waiting for Brennan Othmann and Brett Berard's game(s) to mature in the AHL, JVR could be a suitable placeholder.
Van Riemsdyk may be aging, but he's still producing at a depth level, as this season with the Blue Jackets, he scored 35 (16-19) and earned $900K AAV.
He could slot in on the third line until Berard or Othmann decide they're ready to be promoted. For all intents and purposes, he could use this opportunity to continue to hunt for a cup in the NHL after a failed stint in Boston.
For a retooling lineup, that could be vital, and for JVR, ironically, other than the Boston Bruins and the Toronto Maple Leafs, he's spent the majority of his career in the Metropolitan Division.
The Rangers could be the latest team to add to his laundry list of teams he's suited up for recently.
But this time, under Mike Sullivan, he may have a better chance now than ever to find himself in a playoff situation again after Boston.
