The team has many needs including depth forwards, secondary scoring and defence which this year's free agency crop has several players who could help the team regain its form.
Rangers will have many decisions to come this summer
The organization has now chosen Mike Sullivan as their new head coach who will bring a different style behind the bench with hopes that the Rangers will become an aggressive forechecking team and will look to add offence well playing sound defense.
Baugh shows many players who would be available for the Rangers to look at and some certainly stand out.
Ryan Donato
One player who could fit the bill would be Ryan Donato who currently is with the Chicago Blackhawks. His name became quite common amongst the rumor mill as the Blackhawks were looking to move several players at the trade deadline to help recoup more assets as they rebuild their team.
Last season, he scored 31 goals with 62 points through 80 games and only had a $2,000,000 cap hit. The Rangers currently have $8.4 million going forward into their offseason but it's likely Drury will make several trades to help clear cap space and could bring a player like Donato into the fold who would give the team a different look in their top nine forwards.
Trent Frederic
Another option at forward would be Trent Frederic who was traded from the Boston Bruins to the Edmonton Oilers for their cup run. Frederic Is well known for his physical play and would give the Rangers more toughness and grit well potentially landing a contract around 2 to $3,000,000.
Even though he only played 58 games due to injury, and scoring eight goals with 15 points he would certainly be an upgrade to their checking game and give the team more size.
Brian Dumoulin
On defense, the Rangers always could use an upgrade and with the limited cap space depending on how the trade market shakes out, a player like Brian Dumoulin of the Rangers archrival New Jersey Devils would give the Rangers great minutes as he held 30 minutes again during the New Jersey first round series.
His shutdown capabilities while still giving 22 points through 80 games would be worth adding him to the roster.
Of course, rumors will always flow between now and July 1st when free agency opens and with the Rangers looking for major change, Rangers fans will have a potentially new team when it's all said and done.
