NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman has just confirmed Trent Frederic's fate with the New York Rangers as he's been linked to the Rangers several times this offseason.![]()
Trent Frederic was originally drafted by the Boston Bruins in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft in the first round (29th Overall), and spent several years the organization before he was eventually traded to the Edmonton Oilers.
The Boston Bruins organization unexpectedly traded the former Bruin at the 2024/25 NHL Trade Deadline in a three-team trade, where Frederic was acquired by the Edmonton Oilers.
Frederic is in the final season of his two-year, $4.6M contract ($2.3M average annual value) and will become an unrestricted free agent this off-season, on July 1.
However, the New York Rangers have been linked to Frederic this offseason has he is well known for his physical play and would give the Rangers more toughness and grit well potentially landing a contract around 2 to $3,000,000.
New insight was just announced by a trusted NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, unveiling Frederic's expected future, as he's expected to land an extension with the Oilers.

This ultimately suggests that the New York Rangers wont be landing Trent Frederic as he seems to be happy with the Edmonton Oilers, which is understandable as the 27-year old is currently battling for the Stanley Cup, as the Edmonton Oilers take on the Florida Panthers in a very exciting rematch.
