If the New York Rangers need assets to retool, they'll need to send some top talent away. That includes winger Artemi Panarin, as GM Chris Drury could find a trade partner in the Los Angeles Kings.![Artemi Panarin]()
The New York Rangers are going for a retooling this offseason. It could be a very painful procedure that may find us watching some of our favorite players being traded away.
That could include superstar winger Artemi Panarin, who has been with the team since the start of the 2019-2020 season.
«And in the last few days, I'm starting to hear some interesting whispers surrounding Artemi Panarin. Now, I don't know if he's fully available, but he's got one year left on his contract, and they've got to decide whether they want to keep going with this core group or if they can move Panarin, get a significant return, and use that cap space - along with some of that capital - to rejig the roster.
Since the core has failed to make it to the playoffs, they'll have to go back to the drawing board and find a new team in free agency.
One interesting trade proposal send Artemi Panarin to the Los Angeles Kings.
Rangers acquire:
Alex Laferriere
2025 first-round pick
Kings acquire:
Artemi Panarin
Alex Laferriere
2025 first-round pick
Kings acquire:
Artemi Panarin
The Kings would add another winning piece to a lineup that is an easy out by the Edmonton Oilers in the West.
While the New York Rangers would get a first-round pick, and forward Alex Laferriere, who has showed promising two-way play in Los Angeles.
Laferriere was a 83rd overall pick, in the 3rd-round of the 2020 NHL Draft and has had a breakout year in Los Angeles.
In 77 games played with the Kings this season, he's scored a total of 42 points (19 goals, 23 assists).
New York would acquire a first-round pick and Laferriere, who's a pending RFA. The 23-year-old can be a middle-six forward with the Rangers and add some youth and speed to the lineup.
The Rangers would be able to clear Panarin's cap space, and send him to the Kings, who are cup contenders, if he'd agree to waive his no-trade clause to be sent to the West Coast.
Panarin has only one year left on his deal, and during a retool, cap space is a luxury needed to be able to secure the right kind of talent for the future.
