In late March, Laba managed to sign a contract with the Rangers which will give him a chance to show his skill set as he tries to prove himself with the Wolfpack after spending several years with the NCAA.
Laba gives the Rangers a potential middle to bottom six center
Laba was selected in the fourth round of the 2022 draft and spent the last two seasons playing for Colorado College in the NCAA. He spent just 100 games across two seasons at Colorado College, and in that time, he scored 41 goals and added 44 assists for 85 points. Prior to that, Laba skated for the Lincoln Stars in the USHL, and he tallied a line of 24-34-58 in 96 games across two seasons. - Tom Urtz Jr.
After his signing in March, he was able to play 11 games for the Wolfpack while scoring three goals and two assists for five points he also showed that he will be a versatile penalty killer which is a skill set that any team would love to have.
The 21-year-old who was drafted by the Rangers in 2022, fourth round honored 11th overall is 6 foot 2 and 192 lbs.
There's a strong indication that general manager Chris Drury will be looking at the
Wolfpack in more detail as he wishes to strengthen his prospect pool while looking at current players who could fill in roles on the Rangers lineup which includes stars Gabe Perreault and Brennan Othmann.

Rangers will look at all options to improve the team this summer
The Rangers certainly have a handful of bottom-six options that include Jonny Brodzinski, Sam Carrick, Adam Edstrom, Matt Rempe, and Juuso Parssinen among others, but if all goes well Laba could be a really attractive option for the 2026-27 season because he makes just $870,000 against the cap. - Tom Urtz Jr.
With those options, the Rangers will also look at the trade market an the unrestricted free agency to help improve the teams ability to play both ends of the ice along with improving their speed and their youth.
It will be an interesting summer for the Rangers and the fanbase as change in the wind.
