New York Rangers Latest PTO Signing Of Conor Sheary Comes With Several Implications

The New York Rangers have offered former Stanley Cup champion Connor Sheary to a PTO. While this isn't a case of a superstar player reuniting with Mike Sullivan, the implications are there, whether or not Sheary will impress his old coach enough in training camp.Connor Sheary

Mike Sullivan was the head coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins when Connor Sheary won two-Stanley Cups.
The move was made by GM Chris Drury to add some depth to the lineup while giving Sullivan some familiarity in the lineup. For Sheary, he thrived under Sullivan, putting up his best numbers, posting 53 points in 2016-17.
The 33-year-old veteran played for the Tampa Bay Lightning last season and had his contract bought out by GM Julien Brisebois.

What Are The Cons of Signing Connor Sheary?

Sheary played only five games in the NHL last season with the Tampa Bay Lightning and wouldn't record a point until after November 30th.
The year prior, he scored 15 points in 57 games while playing injured.
For Sheary, he's not the kind of player the Rangers are looking to build out the future with, as his frame is 5-foot-8, 182 pounds, while the team wants to be younger, bigger, and faster.
There's no telling whether or not Mike Sullivan had a hand in the New York Rangers signing Sheary, but his own personal viewpoint shouldn't be the reason the Rangers miss out on success in the future.
As far as we can tell, Sheary shouldn't stand in the way of Brennan Othmman, Gabe Perreault, and Brett Berard that we know.
His last contract paid him $2 million AAV.
