Over the past several hours, news continues to emerge around a potential deal with Chris Kreider heading to Anaheim in exchange for top prospect, and a second-round pick heading back to the Rangers.![]()
It appears that Anaheim Ducks top prospect Carey Terrance along with the 2023 second round pick would head to the Rangers in exchange for Chris Kreider and his entire 6.5 million per season contract.
Terrance growing prospect with Team USA and Ducks
The 20-year-old centre who stands at 6 foot 1 and 187 lbs was selected by the Anaheim Ducks in 2023, second round 59th overall.
A resident of Akwesasne New York was a key member of Team USA when they won the IIHF world junior championship this year.
He has been a member of the OHL's Erie Otters since 2021 where his best year was in 2023-2024 where he played 56 games, scoring 29 goals with 23 assists for 52 points.
This past season he had only played 45 games, scoring 20 goals with 19 assists for 39 points and had 14 penalty minutes.
Adding Terrance to the Rangers prospect pool along with an additional draft pick is certainly a good payment for Kreider who appears to be diminishing in his game and the Rangers would recuperate $6.5 million per season.
Trade discussions ongoing between both teams
Several sources across the NHL including Frank Seravalli of the daily face off have stated that the Rangers and the ducks are in advanced talks for this deal.
It remains to be seen on how and when this deal will take place but it's likely to be done sooner rather than later as the Rangers are preparing to make major changes to their roster and shedding salary.
General manager Chris Drury stated that he will be active this year and it appears that he is living up to his promise and Rangers fans will need to buckle up and enjoy the ride as this team may look completely different going into next season.
