Maxx Crosby lobbies for Raiders to sign $13 million former Pro Bowl running back - suong

One of the many positions the Las Vegas Raiders will have to address during the 2025 offseason is running back, where the team doesn't have a sure starter.

Both Alexander Mattison and Ameer Abdullah are slated to be free agents and are hardly adequate solutions to be starters. Zamir White is under contract in 2025 but showed he is not a long-term answer. Sincere McCormick was impressive, but his lack of experience makes him a total wild card.

The Raiders have a few avenues they could use to add more help at the position. The 2025 NFL Draft is one of them, but free agency is another possibility with the Raiders having a ton of cap space ($92.5 million, per Over the Cap) to work with.

One player who will be available on the open market is Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris, who just completed the final year of his $13 million rookie deal.

If you ask Raiders superstar edge rusher Maxx Crosby, he would be on board with bringing Harris in. Here's what he said on "The Rush With Maxx Crosby" podcast.

"Why not? He's from the Bay," Crosby said of Harris. "Najee's a baller... Anybody that could help when it comes to winning and being a culture guy, a leader, that's the type of guy you want around. You've seen Najee; he's played four years in the league and has had 1,000 yards every single season. That alone is impressive. He's a tough mf'er, and hard to tackle, too... I'd love to have a guy like Najee around. Selfishly, he could come to Vegas all day."

Harris is set to hit free agency because the Steelers declined his fifth-year option. The Alabama product had a sensational rookie campaign but was never able to replicate that production over the past three years.

A lot went into Harris' struggles. He doesn't have the best vision when it comes to finding holes and isn't exactly explosive, but Harris also had a lackluster offensive line in front of him and an offense that allowed teams to stack the box against him.

Harris can be an above-average running back with a good supporting cast around him, and he's a threat to catch the ball out of the backfield, also. While he isn't the sexiest option for the Raiders at running back, he'd be an upgrade over anyone the team had in 2024.

Perhaps with a little nudging from their best player, the Raiders might consider bringing Harris in this offseason.
