Mary Cosby, star of Real Housewives of Salt Lake City (RHOSLC), recently made headlines by addressing cracks in her marriage to husband Robert Cosby Sr., while also shedding light on a heated $6.3 million lawsuit. The case not only involves the finances of their Faith Temple Church but also rekindles decades-old family disputes over inheritance.

The story began in 1997 when Mary’s grandmother, Rosemary Cosby, passed away from heart failure. Rosemary left behind a vast estate that included homes, the church, a daycare, a mortgage company, and a restaurant. This empire was passed down to Rosemary’s husband, Robert Cosby Sr., who is now Mary’s husband.

Mary’s marriage to Robert was in line with her grandmother’s wishes, but it sparked serious conflict within her family, especially with her mother, Rosalind Cazares, and other relatives. The disputes over Rosemary’s estate led to a deep rift that has kept Mary estranged from her family for over two decades.

According to The Salt Lake Tribune, the current lawsuit filed by Mary, Robert, and Faith Temple Church targets United Security Financial, Inc. (USF) – a for-profit company owned by the church – along with two executives, Shawn Turner and Annie L. Johnson. Mary and Robert allege that the defendants embezzled millions of dollars from the church for personal use.

On December 17, the defendants filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit. In response, Mary and Robert countered by submitting a Memorandum in Opposition to the motion.

This lawsuit is only the latest chapter in a decades-long saga of disputes over Rosemary’s estate. As reported by Daily Mail, Mary has referenced a legal battle that has simmered for 27 years, involving her estranged family members and unresolved tensions over the inheritance.

After Rosemary’s death, Mary’s mother and siblings – Pamela Jean Cosby, Ernest Walton, Deborah Brainich, Samuel Cosby, and Demetrius Cosby – were embroiled in a conflict over the will. In 2022, Pamela even wrote to the court, pleading for intervention and expressing a heartfelt desire to reunite the family.

“We’ve been estranged for over 20 years since my mother passed on January 4, 1997,” Pamela stated in the letter. “Your Honor, I desperately want to bring my family back together… If we can uncover the truth, our family may finally begin to heal, forgive, and love each other again.”

Alongside the stress of the lawsuit, Mary also revealed struggles in her relationship with Robert Cosby Sr., raising questions about whether their marriage can withstand the storm of legal and financial disputes.

Mary has previously opened up on RHOSLC about the challenges of her marriage, particularly as she grapples with the burdens of family discord and church responsibilities. The $6.3 million lawsuit represents not only a financial challenge but also a test of Mary and Robert’s partnership.

As of now, the lawsuit remains unresolved, with no agreement between the parties. Adding to the complexity, the long-standing rift within Mary’s family continues to cast a shadow over her life, leaving her future uncertain.

Despite the controversies, Mary Cosby remains determined to fight for the truth – not only to protect the church’s assets but also to close a turbulent chapter in her family’s history.
