Igor Shesterkin put on a show in the New York Rangers’ 4-1 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Shesterkin recorded 34 saves on 35 shots while making key stops when the Rangers needed him most.
Per usual, New York leaned on their star goaltender especially through the second period where the Maple Leafs had a ton of high quality scoring chances.
The 28-year-old’s impressive play caught the eye of Maple Leafs goalie Anthony Stolarz who had high praise for Shesterkin following the game.
"You can see why he's going to be the highest-paid goalie in the league," Stolarz said via The Athletic’s Peter Baugh.
There is a growing sense that Shesterkin will get exactly what he wants in terms of his contract due to his groundbreaking play.
He continues to be the main catalyst in the Rangers’ success and by betting on himself after reportedly rejecting an eight-year $88 million contract, he might even make more money than originally anticipated.
With every highlight-real save and top-notch performance, the pressure shifts from Shesterkin to the Rangers.
If Shesterkin keeps up this level of play, the sky’s the limit for what he can ultimately earn on his next contract and he’ll certainly reshape how goalies are valued in the NHL.
