Malcolm Spencer speaks out for the first time since being drafted by the New York Rangers

The New York Rangers have drafted forward Malcolm Spencer 43rd overall in the 2025 NHL Draft. The former Erie Otter wouldn't waste any time as media would begin to pick his brain to get to know him better, and he'd issued a statement to fans afterwards.Malcolm Spence

Malcolm Spence was the 43rd overall pick by the New York Rangers today. Spence was originally expected to be a late 1st-round pick, but managed to drop in the draft for better or worse.
Better, for Rangers fans, as we get to see the prospect pool expand. For Spence, it's about a dream of playing in the NHL, and he would issue his first statement upon being selected by GM Chris Drury.

He sounds excited to join the ranks of the Rangers, who have other exciting prospects in Hartford, undoubtedly, which he'll join when he signs his ELC and turns pro.
The draft is an emotional time for prospects who hear their name called by a respective NHL team, and Spence was emotional about the entire process.
When interviewed by Vince Mercogliano of USA Today, he mentioned how much of a leader he has been in the locker room of Erie, and how he prides himself on that fact. Which is great because leaders don't fall out of the sky and aren't easy to come by.
Mercogliano would ask Spence about the game he plays and what he can contribute to the Rangers organization:
Just by the description alone, you can tell he can handle a lot on the ice and isn't afraid of playing in all three zones, providing a physical presence.
Malcolm Spencer scored a total of 73 points (32-41)in 65 games with the OHL's Erie Otters and served as Alternate Captain.
Now, he'll get to challenge himself further and see if a future as a Ranger is in the cards when he works his way up the depth charts in Hartford.
It does already sound like he'll have a bright future with the kind of game he plays already.
