Longtime Raiders Starter Signs With AFC West Rival - suong

The Las Vegas Raiders are completely turning over their roster this offseason under their new head coach and general manager duo of Pete Carroll and John Spytek. When a team only wins four games the season prior, cleaning house should not be an unpopular move, however, Raider Nation has been upset that several longtime starters were not re-signed this offseason.

There were a handful of players that the fan base supported getting rid of, most notably quarterback Gardner Minshew and center Andre James. But the Los Angeles Chargers' announcement on Tuesday may ruffle some feathers as the team announced that they were signing James just days after the Raiders released him.

James joined the Oakland Raiders as an undrafted free agent before the 2019 NFL season after playing his college ball with Kolton Miller at UCLA. Despite playing under Chip Kelly in college, who is now the offensive coordinator in Las Vegas, James was released last week when the league year officially began.

He started 60 games for the team in his six-year tenure with the franchise but was benched partway through the season last year in favor of rookie Jackson Powers-Johnson. His release was inevitable as he underperformed compared to the contract extension he received last offseason. Now, the Raiders will face him twice a year in the AFC West.
