Lions linked to former $120 million superstar edge rusher to pair with Aidan Hutchinson

The Detroit Lions need to find another capable edge rusher to pair with Aidan Hutchinson before the 2025 season, and a former Super Bowl MVP could be on the team's radar.

CBS Sports' John Breech lists the Lions as a potential landing spot for veteran edge rusher Von Miller, who is still a free agent after being released by the Buffalo Bills in March.

If  you take one look at the Lions' schedule, you'll see why adding Miller might help. During the 2025 season, Detroit will be facing Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, Jordan Love, Jalen Hurts, Matthew Stafford and Dak Prescott. If you're facing a gauntlet like that, you need pass rushers. The Lions do have Aidan Hutchinson, but they don't have much outside of that.
Though retirement was initially a possibility for Miller, the future Hall of Famer stated in May that he will play the upcoming 2025 campaign.

"I got this year on the books for sure, I'm going to play this coming up season, just got to find a team to play on," Miller said. "We'll just keep doing it one year at a time. If I had another great year this year, then I'll play the next year after that, but we'll just keep doing it one year at a time."

Additionally, NFL Network's Brian Baldinger, who is close with Miller's agent, stated during a recent appearance on the DNVR Broncos show that three teams are showing heavy interest in the eight-time Pro Bowl pass rusher.

Baldinger also added that he expects Miller to sign sometime before training camp or during camp.

"I think Von feels like there's a pretty good chance he's going to sign at some point before camp or, I mean, I don't think Von's too crazy about going to training camp, most guys that age aren't, they know what they need to do. He looks in great shape. So I would say he's gonna get signed here," Baldinger said on the DNVR Broncos show.

Though Miller has slowed down in recent years due to injuries, the 36-year-old can still be a solid rotational pass rusher for a contender. The Super Bowl 50 MVP tallied six sacks and 32 quarterback pressures in just 279 snaps with the Bills last year, proving he can still be effective in limited snaps.

Detroit should look to sign Millet to a team-friendly deal and upgrade the pass rush ahead of the season. The former first-round pick isn't the same player he used to be, but Miller would be a nice addition to the Lions' defense, and his savvy veteran experience could prove to be valuable for Dan Campbell's squad.
