The proud mom welcomed her daughter Gemma in December 2024
Lindsay Hubbard is getting candid about her breastfeeding journey.
The Summer House star, 38, opened up about her experience combo feeding in a post on Instagram on Wednesday, March 26. Hubbard, who recently welcomed her daughter Gemma, candidly reflected on the past three months, uploading several pictures and videos of her pumping milk and breastfeeding her daughter.
"I want to share my feeding journey with you all.. Not because you asked, but because I have so much respect for women on this journey!! It’s an intense one!" she began. "To first create a baby with our bodies over the course of 10 months, then to give birth, and then to produce milk to feed our babies.. our bodies are simply superior! 💪."
"Let me first start by saying that everyone has a different journey, and this is MY journey that worked for ME. No one way is right or wrong. If you came here to shame, keep it moving," she continued. "So I just finished pumping (I went a little over 3 months total), and I am simultaneously happy and sad to be done. I’ve secretly cried to myself this past week thinking that I won’t be giving my milk to my daughter anymore. It comes with a lot of emotions. And for anyone who has experienced this feeling, I see you! But I’m excited to get my body and mind back, for me."
"I combo fed the entire time. It was extremely important to me to keep the pressure off of myself by supplementing with formula from day one," she continued. "It’s hard enough being pregnant for so long, then to learn how to become a parent, and take care of a newborn. It’s already so much! I didn’t even know if I could produce enough milk."
The new mom went on to explain that she didn't know if she could "last more than a week" on her "insanely rigorous" combo feeding ritual; however, she accomplished her goal of doing it and she's "proud" she was able to continue that long.
"For the first month, I would breastfeed a couple of times a day, which felt really special to bond with Gemma. And then pump every 3 hours to bottle feed, with the occasional formula bottle each day," she wrote, adding that she got mastitis, an inflammation of breast tissue, after a month. "It was BRUTAL. After that, my milk supply dipped so I stopped breastfeeding and just focused on continuing to pump & bottle feed."
Although she noted that she continued to "fight off" mastitis for two months, she continued to follow her routine, ending her journey after three months.
"Our girl’s a formula girl now 🍼 … until solid foods ❣️," she ended.
Hubbard welcomed her first baby with her boyfriend Turner Kufe. Hubbard shared the exciting news on her Instagram on Sunday, Dec. 8, sharing a photo of herself and her partner holding their little one's hand.
"She’s here!! 🎀 Gemma Britt Kufe," Hubbard wrote in her caption, revealing her newborn's name.
