Known for their tumultuous relationship that played out in front of cameras, Mark Wright and Lauren Goodger were once TOWIE’s ‘It’ couple.
And sources say that Lauren, 38, has been left less than impressed after old comments of her ex’s have resurfaced. In a clip that is now 15 years old, Mark, now 38, can be seen watching footage of Lauren getting a spray tan, with his sister Jess and their friend James ‘Arg’ Argent. Mark turned to the pair and said, ‘She looks f**king 19 stone, the div.’
A friend of Lauren said, ‘It is unbelievable that that was allowed to ever be screened,’ adding, ‘Some of the things Mark said to Lauren were absolutely vile, they were awful and cruel.’
A source now tells Closer the impact it’s had on her. ‘Hearing all this horrible stuff from the past isn’t helping Lauren on her healing journey at all, especially as she feels she’s moving in the right direction and is on the right path now after having a lot of setbacks. She’s desperately pleaded to her pals not to bring up the comments because she doesn’t want to be involved in any of it. Right now, it feels like she’s never going to be able to escape her past.’
The TOWIE stars dated from the age of 15 and were engaged in 2011, but the romance was plagued by infidelity rumours from both sides.
Mark went on to marry actress Michelle Keegan, 37, in 2015 and the pair welcomed a baby daughter, Palma, earlier this year, while Lauren now shares three-year-old daughter Larose with Charles Drury, 26. She and Charles have also had a tumultuous relationship, and after their daughter Lorena passed away in 2022, he was accused of attacking Lauren on the day of her funeral.
Now, amid the pair’s rumoured reconciliation, insiders add that Lauren hopes these clips haven’t caused Mark’s wife any grief.
‘Lauren doesn’t know why the comments resurfaced again but she doesn’t want any part of it,’ a source says. ‘It truly is ancient history for her. She’s been through so much unbelievable hardship since then. She knows what Michelle is going through right now as a new mother and wouldn’t want any of this piercing her baby bliss — Lauren doesn’t think it’s fair on her. She’s happy for them and wants to leave it at that.’
