“I feel like it’s hard to get to know someone when it’s public. It’s so challenging.” This is as true as it can get. When the person you date is of the stature as the ones in Pippen’s life, it would be hard to keep anything private. From exchanging promise (not engagement) rings with Michael Jordan’s son, Marcus, to saying, “It is off.” Pippen’s life seems to be teeming with updates, and now here’s a new one.
With a dating history as rich as Larsa’s, setting standards for the men in her life is a great way to start prioritizing yourself. And that’s exactly what Pippen did. “Smart, cute, kind and funny” are all the qualities she is looking for in her beau. But above all this, there is one particularly specific condition that she doesn’t seem to budge on. “I’m trying to avoid athletes,” Larsa told US Weekly when asked about her dating preferences, and considering the fact that her dating pool saw mainly athletes, this rule does sound a little odd.
Let’s cut to the star-studded birthday party for Real Housewives of Miami star Marysol Patton. Into the newly opened restaurant Maple & Ash, Pippen walks in, alone, wearing a gorgeous black dress. The party had in attendance Alexia Nepola, Lisa Hochstein, Kiki Barth and also, Haitian-American basketball player Jeff Coby. Coby walks in, wearing a full black outfit. Though the two tried to get some privacy, it was not too late till paps found Pippen breaking her golden rule.
Larsa was reportedly “spotted showing PDA” with Haitian-American basketball player Jeff Coby. According to Page Six, “The “Real Housewives of Miami” star, 50, arrived “holding hands” with the “tall” and “much-younger guy” on Saturday at the newly opened restaurant Maple & Ash” While these are all just rumors, it is unknown whether the two are dating or have something serious. The RHOM actress and the restaurant have yet to comment on it.
Considering this, it might be that Larsa might have found the top four qualities that she mentioned before. “They were cute. She was glowing. (Larsa) seemed really happy and smiley,” sources told Page Six. With everything going on, one question still remains: Why did she break her rule?
Hinting at her previous relationships while speaking to US Weekly, Pippen stated, “I don’t harp on the past it’s over. I live in the present.” This does shed more light on why she broke her golden rule, doesn’t it?
With her rule potentially broken and rumors spreading like wildfire, there is one thing we all want to know: Why did she not just choose someone who wasn’t an athlete? For someone who is as ‘ready to marry’ as Pippen is, does a rule like that really matter if the person she finds is “the one?”
“It’s not like I go look for it”: Why Larsa Pippen has her rule
With the dating history that Larsa Pippen has, it is very evident that the people she has dated are mostly athletes or, in particular, basketball players. Let’s take a quick look at this, shall we? We know that Pippen was married to basketball player Scottie Pippen. The two got divorced in 2021. Following this, she had a brief romance with basketball player Malik Beasley.
After that, she made headlines with her romance with Marcus Jordan. While Marcus wasn’t a professional basketball player, he did play in college. That aside, as the son of Michael Jordan, Marcus is very much part of the scene. Of all the stories, the one that stands out the most would be the time Marcus confessed to giving Pippen a promise ring. While talking to People Magazine, he had stated, “Yeah, I definitely gave you a promise ring.” And we all know what happened to that promise. With all that has happened to her, it is only natural that she has a “no dating athletes” rule for herself.
It is quite clear that the circle that Pippen had around her were mainly athletes themselves. “I feel like I’ve been in the basketball world for so long that I feel like I’m just surrounded by that world.” And as she quite rightly puts it, “It’s not like I go look for it. It’s just there, you know?”
But now, she is also not letting any of the conditions she put up for herself hold her back from finding the right man! She put it very plainly when she said, “I just think you learn from all your mistakes. You grow every day, and I just feel like I’m in a better place today than I was yesterday.”
But with the rumors surrounding Pippen and Coby, it does seem like the golden rule does not apply when you are as happy as Pippen was. And this is perhaps the reason why Larsa doesn’t wish to date athletes. But could it be that she will break her rule one more time? Just to find “the one?” All we can do is wait and watch.
