Lala Kent tearfully recalled the phone call from an executive producer letting her know that she was fired from Vanderpump Rules, as Lala suggested that she “never want[s] to go back.” Around the same time, a source claimed the cast wasn’t aware of the “extent” of Bravo’s reboot plans.
Last week, the network announced that the entire cast was getting replaced with current servers from Lisa Vanderpump’s restaurant – which is how the show started. Some reports hinted that the cast’s refusal to come together after Scandoval played a part in the decision to start over.
“I’ve known that this was coming for a while,” said Lala on the Scheananigans podcast.
She suggested that the phone call reminded her of her dad’s passing.
“And I’m not comparing when I say this moment to the passing of my dad, but there was a moment in time being in a limo … [that] broke down, and I wanted to lose my s**t. I remember looking at my dad [thinking], ‘This is a moment that I want to remember because it’s funny.’ I was like, ‘My dad’s not gonna be here forever.’ And then the call that was made where it’s like, ‘Dad’s gone.’ And I immediately went back to that moment of like, ‘It came. It’s here,'” recalled Lala, who began to shed tears.
“And I’m not comparing like the end of Vanderpump to that, but I remember so many moments of us all having ups and downs and being like, ‘One day it’s gonna be over. We’re not gonna remember the bad. We’re just gonna be so happy that it all happened, and it’s not gonna last forever,'” she explained. “So that’s the moment like when [producer] Alex called me and I knew it was coming. But it was like, ‘Oh, we’re here.'”
She compared it to graduating high school.
“It’s like you never want to go back to high school, right? Like a horrible time,” she said. “But there’s something that sinks in where it’s like I feel this intense bond to my cast. They probably don’t feel the same way, but…”
Meanwhile, a source told Us Weekly that costars weren’t aware of the “extent” of the reboot plans.
“The cast found out about the future of VPR on Monday,” said the insider, referring to the day before Bravo’s announcement. “Everyone knew something was coming, but to the extent of a reboot, no one really knew.”
