It may be the end of an era for Tom Sandoval and Tom Schwartz.
Vanderpump Rules alum Kristen Doute revealed where the friendship between the two men stands today on Bravo’s Hot Mic Podcast in the wake of Sandoval’s very public cheating scandal, the pair's bar closing down, and the recent decision to revamp the popular reality series with a new cast.
“I talk to Schwartz pretty often, like, we’re both very close with Schwartz,” she shared of herself and her fiancé Luke Broderick. “And Schwartz and Sandoval have sort of evolved away from each other.”
While Kristen confirmed the Toms are not as close these days, she was quick to add that the friendship between the frequent collaborators hasn’t completely severed, but has just evolved as life has taken them in different directions — much like her own friendship with Schwartz’s ex Katie Maloney.
“I know there’s a lot of love there,” she said. “I think it’s one of those, it’s like a me and Katie thing, it’s like it will always be there, but I don’t think they’re going to be as close as they used to be and I think Sandoval’s gotta kind of just go through what he’s going through and then hopefully come out the other side of it.”
Kristen, who is now engaged and expecting her first child with Luke, has survived her own public scandals, but she offered up no specific advice for Sandoval as the musician continues to work through his own in the spotlight.
“I don’t think there’s anything I can say that is going to push Tom into any direction one way or another,” she admitted. “I hope he gets through this sort of, it feels like this, I don’t want to say midlife crisis, but [that] is kind of what he’s in right now.”
Kristen agreed with Hot Mic host and Bravo producer Alex Baskin that the “magnitude” of the fallout Sandoval has faced in the wake of the cheating scandal has been “extraordinary, to say the least.”
“Yeah, that’s not the Tom that — it’s a bit of the Tom that I once knew, I’ll say that, there are pieces of that, but it’s ... he’s not really the Tom that I knew,” Kristen, now a cast member of The Valley, confessed.
Kristen and Sandoval famously dated from 2007 to 2013 and were by each other’s side when Vanderpump Rules first kicked off in 2013. They called it quits the next season and Sandoval went on to date Ariana Madix.
After several drama-filled seasons of Vanderpump Rules with its original cast, including Schwartz and Sandoval, Bravo announced in November that it planned to revamp the series with a whole new cast for Season 12, promising to focus on a new batch of “close-knit SUR-vers who are as complicatedly involved with one another as their iconic predecessors.”
Currently, Sandoval can be seen competing for glory in the current season of The Traitors on Peacock.
The decision to recast Vanderpump Rules isn’t the only beacon of change in Schwartz and Sandoval’s relationship.
The pair also permanently closed down their bar, Schwartz & Sandy’s, in December.
The two friends hosted a “farewell tour” at the bar in their final weeks.
"So this is a farewell tour. Let Tom and I host your holiday parties, birthdays, even a funeral for your lizard (rip Daug)," Schwartz wrote on Instagram at the time. "It's a celebration so many of us working here have poured our hearts into over the last few years. Let's end this era on a high note and come on by, bring your friends, toast to the upcoming holidays, and let's manifest together a kick ass New Year. There's some peace in knowing I gave my all into S&S, fully committed with every fiber of my being. To all the patrons who came in & supported us, showed me love every single night I was there, you kept me going through some of the harder times."
