Kicker Jake Bates Made Lions History During 'Monday Night Football'

The Detroit Lions went into halftime trailing the San Francisco 49ers, 21-13. However, Dan Campbell's team came out firing on all cylinders.

The Lions scored a touchdown via a Sam LaPorta reception and converted the two-point conversion to tie it at 21.

Then, Jake Bates hit a 57-yard field goal, followed by an Amon-Ra St. Brown touchdown catch to give the Lions a 31-28 lead going into the fourth quarter.

With less than 11 minutes to go in the fourth quarter, Bates hit another field goal, a 42-yarder, to push the Lions' lead to 34-28.

After that, the Lions made a big announcement as Bates became the single-season scoring leader, passing the mark previously set by Jason Hanson in 2012.

Bates played college football at Arkansas and has had a massive season for the Lions. Entering Monday night, he had a 23-of-26 mark on field goals with a 58-of-59 clip from extra points.

However, Bates missed an extra point on Monday night, although he made up for it with a pair of field goals in the second half, including a massive 57-yarder.

Bates went undrafted, but so far, he has done well in 2024 for the Lions, and now his name is in the franchise record books.
