The Real Housewives of Atlanta are back with some new faces and some familiar ones as well this season. Five of the ladies are going through a divorce and as Porsha explains, “life doesn’t have a fairy tale ending.” However, it gets really messy, really fast when Kelli decides to ask the question we are all thinking: why did Porsha “take that woman’s husband?” And what really is going on between Drew and “Porsha’s” Dennis?
You probably remember Shamea as “Porsha’s ride or die,” but this year she is ready to make a name for herself and outshine everyone with her $9 million dollar house (thanks, HVAC!). Shamea greets her family at Sterling Hall and they discuss her upcoming birthday party, seemingly ignoring the massive Gucci shopping bags on the island. Shamea explains that she sees herself as a quadruple threat in show biz, but family will always be the most important thing to her. She is ready to grow her family again, despite her youngest daughter being born prematurely via surrogacy.
Shamea must take cues from Dorit with these long-winded stories. She explains that she has been married for ten years and that the secret to making a guy your number one is to go number two in their bathroom. “So ladies, sh*t in his bathroom. First night. Mark your territory.”
Must say after seeing Shamea’s fancy lifestyle, you can’t help but wonder if this is the life Porsha desired when she got with Simon!
This year Shamea is ready to have a big birthday bash with new and old friends on the guest list. Shamea has been friends with Porsha forever, and through Porsha, she became close with Cynthia and Kenya. She also became friendly with Kelli and Brit and filmed a movie with Drew, who is friends with Angela Oakley. The connections! Shamea states, “Everybody knows, I’m Atlanta’s best friend, and in this friend group, I am the glue.”
Drew is busy momming throughout all of the changes this messy divorce has brought. She is leaning on her friends, like Kenya, for support. Drew explains that Ralph got court-ordered to move into the basement and she wonders why he has not moved out to “the streets yet,” the thing that excites him the most. Drew explains that Ralph likes to be petty and fight this past year, whereas Drew did five movies and had her music.
Drew talks about Porsha’s Dennis, her partner in music. His career change seems a bit questionable considering the last time we saw him he was involved in hot dogs. Drew explains that Porsha is ok with all of this, but when Drew refers to Dennis as her “saving grace,” eyebrows are raised. Kenya wonders why Drew didn’t try to produce Porsha’s music back then (#flatline) and Drew assumes that if Porsha is not okay with this, she would have spoken up.
Kelli, the waffle queen, talks about her 4 daughters. She calls her townhouse a “sorority house” and is looking forward to having her divorce finalized. Kelli vaguely discusses police being at her house before filing, and only divulges that it became “a very unsafe environment” for her. Her restaurant, Nana’s Chicken and Waffles, is like her fifth child and she has really built the brand. Kelli goes on to share that the girls cannot see their father, but they seem to be thriving as her 17-year-old daughter opens her 17 presents. What a life.
Porsha is filing for divorce, round II. This time around, Porsha had a prenup. Simon, her soon to be ex, wouldn’t tell her the finances and she wants to be sure to protect assets. Simon doesn’t want Porsha filming in the house and so she is p*ssed that he is messing with how she makes her money. Simon didn’t have a real green card and he tried to get citizenship, so Porsha is forced to mourn a man she once loved but is no longer real.
Shamea is heading out on the town with Kelli and Brit. Brit talks about her fast friendship with Kelli and how they must be on “nipple control” when they start to have too much fun. Kelli lets Shamea know that she is proud of her in this motherhood role and they toast to peace and happiness. They discuss Shamea’s upcoming party and Porsha’s rough divorce.
Kelli states that Porsha should never have taken “that girls’ man” and says the man was “taken a little bit.” There MIGHT have been a gray area and Kelli points out that it’s a little weird with Simon and Porsha. They all want to know just how messy this relationship was, but Shamea wants to be sure Kelli gets to know Porsha, her bestie, before she starts dropping bombs.
Speaking of bombs, the whole Drew and Dennis of it all creeps up into conversation. Shamea thought they were simply “working together,” but it’s beginning to seem a bit muddled. Dennis has evidently been creeping on everyone- commenting on Kelli’s pictures and taking Brit out on a date long ago. Brit said she shut it down (despite him gifting her a diamond necklace), stating, “no one wants to see his hot dog.”
Porsha explains that Shamea is helping her get through the divorce, so they meet at a strip club to let loose. Simon texted Shamea congratulations on the show, but, according to Porsha, Simon has been a nightmare. Shamea tells Porsha know that Kelli was wondering why she took that lady’s (Falynn’s) man/husband. Porsha is aghast, as she does not even KNOW Kelli and here she is talking smack. Shamea continues to share that there was talk about Drew and Dennis, also. Porsha is weirded out that Drew is being sneaky and hanging out behind the scenes. To Porsha, it feels like they are crossing the line.
On the day of Shamea’s party, the rain is coming down hard. Shamea is hoping to get it to stop through a little prayer and song. Cynthia is prepping to come and phones Porsha to see how she is doing with Simon. Porsha explains that on top of her divorce, she is forced to navigate Drew having Dennis as her new hang out buddy…er, music producer. Cynthia smells something up with this situation for sure.
Shamea has Kelli come over early to discuss the uncomfortability of it all. Shamea DID tell Porsha what Kelli said about her taking another lady’s man. Kelli explains that she is passionate about infidelity, as she was cheated on, too, but is that an excuse to talk sh*t about someone you hardly know?
When Cynthia enters Shamea’s party, she acknowledges Shamea’s wealth and gets to know Kelli. Kelli admits that she came in hot with Porsha and Cynthia realizes that there ain’t nothing small about Kelli except for her size. This girl can really stir that pot.
Drew makes her entrance and shrieks upon seeing Cynthia. She then shuts down any Dennis questioning immediately. Angela and Kenya join the group and Brit points out that five of the ladies are going through a divorce. Brit talks about her upgraded ring and Kenya throws some shade about her not having a wedding band. This in turn make Brit salty.
Shamea makes a grand entrance and she is thrilled to have all her friends together under one roof, well everyone except her BFF Porsha who is running SO late. Shamea’s husband surprises her with a Rolls Royce (for a cool $430,000) and just as Shamea is having her moment with the car, Porsha walks up, taking away a little of Shamea’s shine.
As the party continues, Kelli becomes upset that Shamea took the information back to Porsha about *the* comment. Just as Kenya tries to get to the crux of it, Porsha rolls up as if on cue. The fakeness is next level as Kelli and Kenya meet each other for the first time, but Kelli grabs the bull by the horns and lets Porsha know what she said, from her mouth.
“So my question was why did she take that woman’s husband?” asked Kelly right to Porsha’s face. Porsha dodges the question, stating “I don’t even know you, you’re a perfect stranger,” but Brit tries to defend Kelli. Porsha is over Kelli’s aggressiveness, but Kelli does not like that Porsha is not owning it and answering the question she asked.
Shamea brings the women up to the next level, literally, via elevator, and they sit down to chat. Shamea wonders why Drew didn’t invite her to her birthday party, but Drew defends herself, claiming it was a surprise. She gave numbers to her assistant, who did not do anything with them! Porsha jumps in and says Dennis invited her to Drew’s birthday, which is a bit sus. Shamea takes this opportunity to ask Drew outright, “I would be inauthentic if I didn’t ask, are you dating Dennis now?” To be continued…
