Katie Price shares photos of five of her pets after furious calls for the star to face lifetime ban on owning animals - suong

Katie Price has sparked fresh controversy after proudly gushing over her pets online - despite her chequered history of animal ownership and calls for her to be banned from keeping them.

The former glamour model, 45, posted a cosy Instagram Story of her three hairless Sphynx cats and two dogs snuggled together on a rug, captioning the image: 'My babies.'

In another snap, Katie shared two of the cats snoozing as they cuddled up close.

Katie's latest posts come just weeks after she and boyfriend JJ Slater introduced fans to their new 10-week-old cocker spaniel named Rookie, a move that raised eyebrows given her long list of past pet tragedies.

Animal lovers are thought to have once again reignited a petition demanding the mum-of-five be permanently banned from owning animals.

The Change.org petition - launched after several past incidents - has now racked up close to 38,000 signatures.

Over the years, Katie has owned several pets, but has come under scrutiny after five dogs, a horse, and a chameleon all died while in her care - many of them in traffic accidents near her home in Sussex

According to reports, her German Shepherd, Blade, was hit and killed by a vehicle on the A24 just months after another of her dogs, Sharon, was struck and killed in the same area.

One of her horses also died in a similar accident after escaping her field.

In 2020, her French Bulldog Rolo tragically died after getting trapped and suffocating under an armchair. The heartbreaking incident sparked national outrage.

Katie was also slammed for giving away an out-of-control Alsatian named Bear after it reportedly attacked other animals and for rehoming another dog, Tank months after getting it due to 'losing interest'.

Animal rights group PETA have repeatedly condemned Katie and are thought to have offered the reality star £5,000 to stop keeping animals.

In an open letter to the former glamour model, PETA's Vice President Elisa Allen wrote: 'While your intentions may be good, the ever-growing number of animals who have either died under your supervision or been given away is impossible to ignore, and people are rightly concerned.'

'Whatever you may offer as reasons for their suffering, relinquishment, or demise, the fact is that you are consistently harming these sensitive, sentient individuals, and I hope you agree that this is a solution.'

In response to the open letter, a representative of Katie's told MailOnline: 'Katie has asked PETA many times to have a conversation with her directly, but instead they continue to play the narrative out in the media.'

'If they want to have a direct conversation with Kate they can get in touch.'

'Isn't it a waste of charity money or have they got funds available to give out to celebrities, which should be going towards animals?'

Despite the backlash continuing to mount, last month Katie allegedly became a co-owner of a female greyhound named Barbie Bullet.

The dog races in Hove, just 25 minutes from Katie's West Sussex home, and has already clocked up six wins from 41 races.

A source told The Sun: 'Katie adores animals and this is a way of her potentially making a little bit of money.

'It’s not a lucrative sport, though, so mostly she just wants to get a bit of fun and joy out of her investment.

They added: 'Racing dogs have good people around them who give them attentive care, and Barbie Bullet is no different.

'There’s absolutely no need to worry about the welfare of this dog.'

In February, Katie told The Sun: 'When people say I shouldn't have animals, it's circumstances that were out of my hands. I love animals.'
