Kathryn Dennis Unveils Untold Stories from Her 'Southern Charm' Journey and Departure Over Two Years Ago - lulu

Kathryn Dennis shared new details about her years on “Southern Charm” and her exit from the show a little more than two years ago. The mom of two was in her early 20s when she became a main cast member on the Bravo reality show in 2015. She exited the show in early 2023.

In an interview on “The Behind the Velvet Rope With David Yontef” podcast which aired on August 11, Dennis admitted she didn’t want to answer questions about why her contract with Bravo wasn’t renewed. But she explained that at the time of her exit from the series, she knew she “needed to grow.”

“I need to be able to form my own identity,” she said. “And I think that where I’m at, is where I’m supposed to be. “

She also noted that she is still in touch with some of her former castmates. “I still talk to the people I love,” she said of her former co-stars, which include Shep Rose, Craig Conover, Austen Kroll, Madison LeCroy, and Venita Aspen. “I didn’t lose anything other than [that]…I guess I lost being on the season or whatever.  …But I support them totally.”

Dennis admitted that the last few years on the show were “hard” as it showed a “certain side” of her amid her difficult split from ex, Thomas Ravenel. “I understood why they had to do certain things,” she said. “People sometimes have to remember that life and business sometimes get mixed up. And when you’re watching it on TV, oh, Lord, it’s crazy. “

In January 2023, Dennis confirmed her exit from “Southern Charm” after 7 seasons. In a statement to Page Six, she said she would always “treasure” the friendships she made while filming the reality show.

Kathryn Dennis Has No Regrets About Joining ‘Southern Charm’

In the podcast interview, Dennis told Yontef that she “had a whole other life” before “Southern Charm” and that her goals, dreams, and path were “already formed.”

“I was in school studying political science, planning on, you know, one day, going to law school and then running for, like, the House of Representatives, then the Senate…I thought I was going to be a Supreme Court justice,” she said. “I mean, I was a dreamer for sure, I just had such a different path and then things just changed. And I don’t know, I’m not mad about it, but I’m just saying, like, it’s so funny to think back on now. Feels like a lifetime ago, and now it’s like two of them or something.”

Dennis clarified that she was not sorry that she joined the cast of “Southern Charm.” “No, not at all,” she said. “I think that it was definitely the journey I’m supposed to take and continue to take for whatever the purpose is in my life that I’m going to be living.”

“I left [the show] at 31,” she added. “It’s like so weird, but…I mean, I would question myself if I was still on the same reality show that long, you know, any longer than that. Um, once you hit double digits, it’s like…”

Dennis also expressed gratitude for the Bravo fans who always “got” her. “And I bonded with the show just as much as people bonded with it and me, you know?” she added. “Like I had a great experience. I felt like I was close with everyone that I ever filmed with. I felt like, you know, I was friends with everyone.”

According to Bravo TV, in a 2024 Instagram post, she announced plans to go back to school. “This girl is going back to school!” she wrote alongside a “BREAKING NEWS” banner.

Dennis didn’t reveal what school she was attending or what she planned to study. In 2009, the future reality star attended the University of South Carolina,  where she studied Political Science and Women’s Studies, per her LinkedIn.

She previously told The Daily Dish that she was interested in fashion. “I’m just kind of dabbling and exploring what it is I want to do now,” she said in 2018. “I was studying politics. And I wanted to go to law school and all that lame stuff that’s just like a checklist. So now I’m just following what I really like, which is fashion and clothes, shoes. I’m trying to teach myself and re-learn who I am.”
