Real Housewives of Atlanta alum Kandi Burruss dropped some jaws at the opening night of the Broadway revival of Othello on March 23 at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre. Alongside her husband Todd Tucker, she looked stunning in a designer dress by Christian Siriano, which was worthy of the occasion.

A vision in a black tulle mermaid-style gown from the Christian Siriano Spring 2025 collection, Kandi delivered all the drama befitting a Shakespearean tragedy like Othello. Constructed with layers of tulle, the gown has an ethereal effect. She looks like a siren rising from the waves of her bubble hem.
The production stars Denzel Washington as Othello, with Jake Gyllenhaal in the role of evil Iago. Kenny Leon directs, and Brian A. Moreland is producing. Kandi and Todd are both co-producers.
“It’s been a great experience,” Kandi told Broadway Time on opening night. “It started back when we were doing ‘The Piano Lesson.’ That’s when Brian Moreland, my producing partner, had the opportunity to start having conversations with Denzel.”
Denzel said he wanted to do another Broadway show, expressing particular interest in Othello. “He said, ‘Make it happen,’ and boom! Here we are,” Burruss said.
In Othello, the title character is a “Moor,” which in Shakespearean times referred to a person of African descent. Some critics believe racism is a central theme to the eponymous tragedy, as it drives many of the decisions made by its characters. As a Black man in a city of white Venetians, that would have made him something of an outsider.
Othello did well in previews and earned over $2.8 million, per Deadline. The production even surpassed Harry Potter and the Cursed Child as the highest-grossing Broadway show.
I’ll probably never get to New York City, but if they filmed this production for television, I’d definitely watch. All the best to Kandi and Todd for a long Broadway run.
