Kandi Burruss casts Denzel Washington in Real Housewives franchise at Othello premiere

Kandi Burruss wants Denzel Washington on The Real Housewives of Atlanta.

The Real Housewives star, along with her husband Todd Tucker, is a co-producer of the Broadway show Othello, which premiered at the Barrymore Theatre in New York City on Sunday, March 23. Othello stars Denzel Washington as the titular character and Jake Gyllanhaal as the evil Iago.

Kandi attended the red carpet with her husband and daughter, Riley, donning a black Christian Siriano dress. While on the red carpet, Kandi spoke to a Mirror US reporter about producing the show and maybe getting Denzel and Jake on the Bravo franchise.

The Real Housewives veteran shared her thoughts on which Housewives show she would cast her two lead actors in, calling the idea "crazy" with a laugh. “Denzel would definitely have to come to Atlanta," Kandi said without hesitating.

"And Jake, oooh where would I put Jake? I mean, Jake lives in LA, I think, so it would be easier to put him on Beverly Hills," she continued, "But he seems so laid back and cool though, so he gives me more New York vibes," finally settling on the Big Apple.

When asked what made her want to produce Othello, Kandi laughed. She said, “Denzel Washington did.”

“Denzel said he wanted to come back to Broadway. He wanted to do Othello, and he said make it happen. And here we are," she said. Kandi and Todd previously produced The Piano Lesson on Broadway, which starred Denzel's son John David Washington, and that's where Denzel and Kandi connected.

This is the third Shakespeare play that Denzel has been in on Broadway. In 2005, the Gladiator II actor was Marcus Brutus in a production of Julius Caesar, and in 1990, he was Richard III in The Tragedy of Richard III.

Othello is also not the first time that Denzel worked with director Kenny Leon, as the two last worked on A Raisin in the Sun in 2014. Kenny also spoke to the Mirror US about what it's like directing both Denzel and Jake.

"It’s great, you always figure, 'Why do they wanna do this?'" he said, "So I dig into that and the fact that they trust me to lead them, that’s huge. I earn their trust every day, and it's just great that they trust me and that they deliver on that and I can challenge them in whatever way that gets us to the truth."
