Several teams are expected to look at hiring new head coaches after the end of the 2024 regular season. Some of these teams include the New Orleans Saints, Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, and the Las Vegas Raiders. While there should be a good amount of options to choose from, a former controversial Raiders head coach could also be making a return to the league.
NFL insider Tom Pelissero mentioned that former head coach Jon Gruden is reportedly being looked at by multiple teams to potentially bring him in as their head coach. However, there is no specific details about which teams are doing their homework on him.
"Keep an eye on Jon Gruden," said Pelissero. "We have not seen Gruden on a full-time basis in the NFL since back in 2021 when he resigned after offensive emails were leaked to the media that he had sent while working as an analyst at ESPN. However, he has remained engaged. We saw him on the sideline with the Bucs owners earlier this fall. We saw him working with the Saints back in training camp last year..."
Pelissero also later said that a handful of teams are looking into the current Barstool Sports content creator.
"It's not to say for sure that Jon Gruden will be back," Pelissero said. "But there are multiple teams that have been doing extensive homework on Jon Gruden. The situation, him as a coach, him as a person. I would not be surprised at all if in the coming weeks you see Jon Gruden's name popping up interviewing for a head coaching job."
Gruden was forced to resign from the Raiders' head coaching job back in 2021 when it was revealed that he wrote emails over a 10-year period that included offensive language.
Gruden has still remained involved with the NFL for many years as a media analyst, and according to multiple analysts, he could have even stepped in last season as the Saints offensive coordinator if he wanted to.
