J.T. Miller was in the middle of constant drama in Vancouver, and now President Jim Rutherford has revealed when he came to them to officially request a trade.
The Vancouver Canucks 2024/25 season was surrounded by drama both on and off the ice, and while it's not the only reason for their struggles, they did take a huge step back as a team and an organization.
After the season, they also lost Head Coach Rick Tocchet, and now, they've got plenty of changes to make as they look to get back into Stanley Cup contention moving forward.
Before that happens however, President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford has taken a look back at the season that was, and in the process, he revealed that star forward J.T. Miller came to them and requested a trade due to all of that drama:
'I would like to move on and get a fresh start.'
That would result in the veteran getting moved back to his first NHL team in the New York Rangers, and after his very public feud with star centre Elias Pettersson, it was ultimately the best decision to make for Miller and the Canucks organization.
In return, Vancouver landed Filip Chytil and other assets, and now, they look to continue building out their roster, as this squad could look very, very different ahead of their 2025/26 campaign.
Ultimately, this wasn't a deal that needed to happen before the season began, but with so much talk from the media about the feud with EP40 and the constant criticism, it was the best move for both parties, and now they'll all look to move forward with their fresh start.
