Jax Taylor and his sister Jenny Lynn Cauchi addressed their family’s “history of mental illness,” as Jax suspected that one person contributed to his “rage” issues. The star also reacted to his estranged wife Brittany Cartwright’s denial that they only fought when he was abusing substances.
On the new season of The Valley, Jax went to rehab for an addiction to cocaine and alcohol. Recently, he suggested that he only had rage fights with Brittany when he was coming down from the substances. Brittany clapped back, claiming they still get in fights to this day, despite his sobriety.
On his “In The Mind of Jax Taylor” podcast, Jax was asked if he thinks his childhood contributed to his rage issues.
“This is a very delicate subject, because … I do think there is a reason for my rage and anger,” said Jax, as his sister agreed. “I think there is a person in our lives that we can agree on that maybe contributed to some of this.”
His sister added, “I think we have a history of mental illness in our family, yes, and that we probably have always had it in us, and we just didn’t know how to work through it and come out on the right side.”
“But why am I so more f**ked up than you?” asked Jax, via @vanderpodrecaps on Instagram. “We came from the same cloth, right? So why is my brain wired the way it is, and why is your brain wired the way it is?”
Jenny responded, “Our parents, you know, obviously had something to do with the way we were brought up … We didn’t really talk about things, and you just kind of didn’t talk, you just pretend like it didn’t happen.”
According to Jax, he thinks his “exaggeration of the truth” comes from one person in his family.
“100 percent,” Jenny agreed. “You were never held accountable. Excuses were made for you. I don’t know why. I always thought because you were the first-born grandchild of the son or whatever … Even when you were older and you were in the shows and you’re getting in trouble, there was still somebody who always bailed you out … Mom has [gotten] you out of trouble. I’ve gotten you out of trouble. I’ve lied for you … We’ve enabled it.”
Jax added, “I think I was a product of my environment. I think I have a lot of the same qualities as one of my parents. Like almost scary, actually. And I think I literally take after this person a lot.”
Jenny said Jax showed signs of being a ‘narcissist’ as a child.
Later on, Jax reacted to Brittany denying his claim that they only fought when he was abusing substances.
“Listen, every couple has arguments,” he said. “But I’m talking about self-destructive, screaming, yelling, going, coming, like being verbally abusive was from drugs and alcohol. That is 100 percent.”
