Jax Taylor looks scruffy as he's seen for the first time since shock announcement that he's leaving The Valley

The troubled reality star Jax Taylor was spotted on Wednesday for the first time since he stunned fans by announcing that he was leaving his reality series The Valley.

The 46-year-old TV star shared the news on Tuesday, the same day that his estranged wife Brittany Cartwright shared a disturbing update about his sobriety on the series.

Jax looked scruffy and ultra-casual when he was seen stepping out in Santa Monica, California.

He wore a gray–blue Nike Detroit Tigers hoodie with frayed cuffs, along with a set of midnight blue jeans and black trainers.

Jax also wore a baseball cap to block out the piercing sun, and he wore a wristwatch with a metal band.

He dropped the bombshell about his departure in a statement to US Weekly, saying, 'After an incredibly challenging year and many honest conversations with my team and producers, I’ll be stepping away from the next season.'

On Tuesday's episode of The Valley, Cartwright, 36, accused her ex of drinking just days after he got out of rehab following a month-long stint in the facility.

Following the bombshell, Taylor is now set to be leaving the show for sake of his 'sobriety' and his 'mental health.'

A source close to production told DailyMail.com that Jax and Bravo had 'mutual discussions' and the network 'respects and supports his decision.'

During the most recent episode, Taylor, 46, visited Cartwright at her rental property for a discussion about establishing 'boundaries' while co-parenting their four-year-old son Cruz.

However, their cordial sit-down quickly turned hostile as the estranged couple got into a shouting match.

Amid their custody battle, which has quickly turned bitter, Cartwright admitted she was having doubts about his sobriety in a confessional.

Taylor — who revealed the 'sickening' amount of cocaine he consumed after Cartwright walked ou last year — stunned viewers with a horrific insult directed at his estranged wife when he made a blunt confession about their crumbling marriage.

'I think after Jax got out of the facility, it took him less than five days to go back to the bars and start partying again,' Cartwright claimed.

'It's just so disappointing, like, he did not take anything seriously,' she added.

On Tuesday, Taylor told Us Weekly he will be leaving the show, saying: 'Right now, my focus needs to be on my sobriety, my mental health, and coparenting. Taking this time is necessary for me to become the best version of myself — especially for our son, Cruz.'

Cartwright also accused Taylor of having others cover for him when he said he was drinking water.

She explained her desire to protect him at the time because she didn't want him to 'get in trouble.'

'If he's not saying it, how am I supposed to be the one saying it? I tried, and at least I know that,' she said.

'I really loved that man and I really tried to make him a better person. Like, how do you continue to be there for somebody who will not even change for you and your son?'

During their tense conversation, Cartwright also set a boundary amid their custody battle.

The reality TV star said that she does not want their son to go over to his house because she is concerned about other women and parties being in his presence.

'Cruz is not going over to your house anytime soon,' she told her ex. 'He's not. Because I don't trust that there aren't nasty women there, parties ... it disgusts me. You're so gross.'

In response to her comments, he got visibly upset and walked off. In a confessional, Taylor maintained that he is 'trying' to be a father to their son.

'I'm here to be a dad, and I'm good at it and I enjoy it, and it makes me happy,' he continued.

'He's actually medicine for me. He actually makes me want to be a better person, and I don't think she should hold her anger over me, using that as a weapon not to see my son. That's just not fair.'

In the same episode, Cartwright also called him a 'narcissist,' claiming he doesn't experience feelings like 'love,' 'pain' and 'hurt.'

'We are different people. I'm going through a lot more than what you're going through right now, because I actually care,' she said while tearing up.

In response, Taylor fired back: 'You don't see me. You don't see what I'm going through at home. You don't see what I'm dealing with at my house. It's 10 years of my life. It's a decade. You could throw that away, but I can't.' Cartwright rebuttled as she listed her many attempts of trying to seek out help for him prior to his rehab stint last year.

When Taylor said he is trying to make changes now, she said: 'Now is too late. You've already ruined our family. I will handle everything and I will send you a bill for your half of all the doctor bills.' Taylor then replied: 'OK, then you don't get full custody.'

Cartwright responded, 'No I'm getting full custody. That's gonna be your child support. You're gonna be paying me for half of Cruz's stuff.'

'Well, you make more. So then I'll go after your alimony,' Taylor fired back.

The pair then started arguing over child support with an enraged Taylor telling his estranged wife that California is a 50/50 state, meaning that marital assets and debts are typically divided equally between spouses.

Taylor said his estranged wife is trying to 'destroy' the father of her son as he declared: 'Every time I come over here, you act so mean to me and you discard me.' She replied: 'I cannot let Cruz be anything like you. And you should feel the same way.'

He said: 'I love my kid more than anything and I'm fighting for him, but I don't know how much more of this arguing and this bickering and just going after each other I can take.' Cartwright later admitted that 'no one' wants to see Taylor get better more than she does. 'I want to say I have hope for him, but he's let me down again and again and again for years,' Cartwright told the cameras. 'I don't have any faith or trust in him anymore, that's gone.'
