James Kennedy took to his Instagram Story on Tuesday to share a statement with his fans and followers in regard to his recent domestic violence arrest.

As an insider spoke out, claiming the family of James’ girlfriend and potential victim, Ally Lewber, 28, had grown concerned about the Vanderpump Rules alum’s “dark side” and was hoping that the couple would call it quits, James, 32, told his online audience he was focusing on his sobriety and growth as he moved forward from the ordeal.

“I am committed to making meaningful changes in my life. I am taking time to focus on my sobriety, personal growth, and being present for my loved ones. Navigating challenging moments is not easy, but I am determined to learn, grow, and move forward with the incredible support system around me,” he wrote on December 17.

After Ally was spotted moving some of her belongings out of the $1.3 million home she shares with James in Burbank, California, a source revealed that her family reportedly “wants them to break up” and has stepped in out of concern for Ally.

“[Ally is] doing okay, as good as can be expected,” an insider told The U.S. Sun on December 17. “She’s really leaning on her friends and family right now and everyone is showing up for her, she is very loved and everyone just wants her to know how valued and strong she is. It seems she’s forgotten some of that strength and independence along the way but she is finding it again. Physically she is fine but mentally she is processing a lot.”

While Ally insisted on Instagram that she was “okay” after James’ arrest, a police report alleged that he had picked up and thrown his victim to the ground amid a fight. And, according to The U.S. Sun’s source, James “immediately stepped in” and attempted to “control the narrative” surrounding what had taken place.

“He wanted to downplay it like he has before, making it seem like it was no big deal. People have even seen him trying to downplay things on the show so imagine how it is off camera. Her family had to step in so Ally can have some space and time to process and that’s exactly what they did,” the insider shared.

“Of course her family isn’t happy with any of this,” the source continued. “There’s aspects of James they completely love, he can have the best heart. But his dark side is something her family doesn’t want her to tolerate and now that it’s come to a head like this, they’re trying to open Ally’s eyes. Ultimately no, they don’t want James and Ally together. They want the best for James but Ally is their little girl and she doesn’t deserve what he’s put her through.”

“It’s a parent’s worst nightmare. Her mom just wants her little girl to be safe and happy,” the insider added.

Although James was believed to have been sober for years at the time of his arrest, he was described as acting “erratic” and “aggressive” in the hours leading up to his incarceration.
