Ally Lewber spoke out about her ex boyfriend James Kennedy's arrest for the first time, revealing it was a 'wake-up call.'
Kennedy, 33, was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence in December 2024, after an argument with Lewber, and in a new interview with People, Lewber, 29, shared how she is moving forward from the situation.
According to Lewber, while they never became physical, they had been arguing that evening about Kennedy's alcohol consumption, which had been an ongoing issue in their relationship.
'I don't know who called the cops, but the cops showed up. They assessed the situation, and I was not hurt physically. Emotionally, yes. But yeah, that's kind of how that night played out, unfortunately,' she said.
According to the arrest log documenting the incident, an officer reported a statement from a woman inside the residence alleging that 'her boyfriend lifted her up and threw her to the ground.' The report did not explicitly identify this woman as Lewber.
Ultimately, prosecutors declined to press charges against Kennedy, and Lewber maintains that the altercation was only verbal.
'It was such a high and a low week,' she said, adding, 'We had just recorded my first episode of [new podcast] StarStruck. James was going to be my first guest. Great energy, we had so much fun. And then the next night was the Kathy Hilton night.'
Earlier that evening, just hours before Kennedy's arrest, he and Lewber had been at Hilton’s annual Christmas party, where Lewber, who is an astrologer, was giving a birth chart reading to Hilton.
Ally said Kennedy 'was drinking behind my back while I was working.'
She said after she finished work and met him, James' 'whole demeanor changed.'
'And I could kind of tell, like, 'Have you been drinking?"' she added.
Though she was 'suspicious' Lewber says that she did not believe Kennedy had broken his sobriety, since he has been in recovery from alcohol addiction for a year at the time.
'I truly was like, "Well he's sober, so maybe he, I don't know, did he drink coffee?"'” she questioned.
'I was like, "Why is he so electric right now?"'
She said once they got in the car, things 'kind of spiraled.'
'I was like, "You're obviously drunk." Because he has a sip and it's pretty easy to spot. His whole demeanor changes.'
She explained that 'drinking was a non-negotiable' for her in the relationship, and that 'the tension was high' between them.
The pair were joined by Ally's friend Jack in the car, with Ally stating they were all 'fighting' and that Kennedy was 'gaslighting' her.
'He's like, "I'm not drunk, you're drunk." And I'm like, "No." We were just fighting, and then when we got out of the Uber, the fighting just continued. I was like, "I don't want to be here." We were just fighting outside.'
Tensions escalated to the point that police were called.
Ally says she requested that the police 'breathalyze' James.
'Because at this point, he's still telling me, "I'm not drunk." So when they actually showed up, I was like, "Oh, perfect, will you please breathalyze him?" So that was my first thought, and they were like, "Well, we can't do that. We're not allowed to do that." But then they were like, "He's drunk." And I was like, "Okay, thanks."'
Ally says initially she wanted to just 'take space' as she was 'heartbroken and sad.'
Despite feeling like she had previously been living a 'fairy tale' with James, Ally's therapist told her that 'it wasn't, because he was lying to you. So it wasn't real."'
Subsequently, Lewber discovered that Kennedy had been 'drinking again behind my back,' and through therapy she came to the realization that it was necessary to end the relationship.
'I never was physically hurt and I never felt unsafe,' she explained about their relationship dynamics.
'I think it was more just walking on eggshells and feeling anxious about, when is his next blow-up going to be? And I didn't even realize this really until I was out of the house for a while, but just how my nervous system just feels normal again. It was always kind of anxious of making sure that he doesn't get upset. Monitoring someone's behavior is not healthy.'
She said breaking up was not easy: 'It was just a lot of wake-up calls that needed to happen, but it wasn't easy in the moment.'
Ally said that after the incident she 'immediately just felt bad' for James.
'I know that he wishes he didn't do that. I know that he wishes that he was more powerful than the drink. So it just makes me feel sad, because it is too bad. It's sad for everyone involved. But I'm proud of him now, and I believe he's still going to AA and working the program, and so I'm excited for him to just heal for himself.'
She added that '90% of the time' James is 'awesome' but 'it's those 10% wounds that aren't fun that come out.'
Ally also stated that she is no longer in contact with Kennedy.
As for future partners, Ally said she is looking for someone she doesn't 'have to fix, someone who already is whole and complete.'
In January, Lewber confirmed her split from Kennedy, just hours after it was revealed he would not face charges following his domestic violence arrest.
She shared an emotional message on her Instagram Stories, announcing the couple had parted ways after two years of dating.
'Thank you for all your support and kindness,' Lewber wrote. 'I am happy that prosecutors decided not to file against James as I never desired criminal charges. We had an argument outside of his home related to him drinking again; however, I was not physically hurt.'
The astrologer admitted she was 'disheartened by how the event was portrayed.'
'We are no longer together, but I'll always support James and wish him the best with his sobriety and healing. Thank you for your understanding,' she concluded.
Ally’s confirmation followed weeks of speculation about their relationship after Kennedy's December 11 arrest, which occurred when Burbank police responded to a call about a ‘man and woman arguing’ at his residence around 11:30 p.m.
A witness claimed to have seen Kennedy and the woman arguing, and the reality star is said to have at one point grabbed the female, TMZ previously reported. Officers said they did not see any visible injuries on the woman.
Lewber is now focusing on her new podcast, StarStruck with Ally Lewber, where she provides personalized astrology readings to her celebrity guests.
