The Washington Commanders avenged the Week 11 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles with a 36-33 win over Nick Siranni's team at Northwest Stadium in Week 16.
In a game in which the Commanders fumbled three times and Jayden Daniels was intercepted twice, Dan Quinn's team stayed the course and scored 22 fourth-quarter points to move to 10-5 on the year.
Head coach Dan Quinn stated midweek that the game would be decided on third and fourth downs. The Commanders were seven for 13 on third downs, to the Eagles' three for 13. Washington was two for three on fourth down, while the Eagles were three of three.
But despite the Commanders' offense doing its best to hand the Eagles the game, Washington's defense stood tall to force a late field goal, giving Daniels a chance to win the game.
Which is exactly what he did. So the Commanders have arrived ... while the Eagles, according to a national media rumor, might be in search of a new backup quarterback due to Jalen Hurts' concussion.
Jayden led an 11-play, 57-yard touchdown drive in which he went five for six for 38 yards and 14 rushing yards to put his team ahead with just six seconds left on the clock.
Washington then converted their two-point try to rub salt into the Eagles' wounds.
The Commanders have now shown that they can match it with one of the best in football, and yes, Hurts exited the game early with that concussion (putting his availability for next week against the Dallas Cowboys in question), but Daniels, when he had the chance to go with the game, drove his team down the field and delivered a strike to Jamison Crowder.
Washington was considered a contender in the NFC prior to the clash. Now, after handing the Eagles their first loss in 10 weeks, maybe they have graduated to the heavy-hitter category.
