Jacob Trouba already emerges as a potential trade target for Eastern Conference team

The news is buzzing with rumors, as Jacob Troubahas emerged as a trade candidate for the New York Rangers.2022 Stanley Cup playoffs - Jacob Trouba doesn't think about being the villain - ESPN

While he had hoped to return to the Rangers this season to hunt for a Stanley Cup, this team as a whole has underperformed.

Trouba himself acknowledged the possibility that the core could be blown up if they don't achieve the goals expected of them. But now at 4th in the Metropolitan Division, a 2-2 split on the Western Road trip, and GM Chris Drury is panicking.

Trouba could be a vital piece of another team's blueline, as the Rangers Captain is capable of more. But where will he land?

One team he could lend his leadership to is in the Atlantic Division with the Ottawa Senators.

The rebuild was declared over, prematurely as they're still struggling to become a winning squad, even with Linus Ullmark in the net.

The team is in the hunt for a right-shot defenseman, and Trouba could be the solution. News of Artem Zub's foot injury has sent the Senators spiraling, as they need help on the right side.

In congruence with today's news that defenseman Artem Zub will miss time with a fractured foot, it's no surprise that the Ottawa Senators are looking to trade for a defenseman. TSN's Bruce Garrioch reports that general manager Steve Staios is aggressively pursuing the trade market for more defensive depth.

With an upgrade in defensive depth, the Senators could find a way to turn around their record and find themselves in a playoff berth.

Still, the team could certainly use an upgrade on defense if they hope to compete for a spot in the 2025 Stanley Cup playoffs in a sturdy Atlantic Division. The Senators own an 8-11-1 record on the year and have 62 games left to build momentum.

The question is, what would a trade for Jacob Trouba look like?

There's no way the Rangers can move Trouba without retaining a percentage of his salary, and if they did the return could be more generous.

Trouba is in year 6 of his 7-year contract with the Rangers, and it'd benefit the Senators if they have to pay him considerably less next season.

The Rangers will look to move his contract alone, so they'll have to stay humble and make the move as easy as possible for both GM Steve Staois and Trouba himself.

If you were GM Chris Drury would you trade Jacob Trouba to Ottawa?
