Love Island and its producers are now being called out for a so called ‘character assassination’ on Shakira and Toni, who have between them been constantly voted as the two most popular girls in the villa. Fans on Twitter / X are absolutely convinced the show wants to paint Shakira and Toni in a more negative light, and make things more difficult for them as they continue to find adoration with the viewers. And why do they get that adoration? Because they’re absolute icons who are always on the right side of history. Facts are facts I’m afraid! But with these key tweets, it’s clear that viewers are unhappy with what seems like tactics to get the villa to turn even more on the pair of besties. Here’s what’s going down.
The show has released the fan votes on Instagram stories to have their say on the winners of the now annual Grafties. The Grafties function as a second Movie Night in the villa, really – with the setup of an awards evening. The Islanders all get shown clips for various categories that viewers have voted a winner for.
It is with these selected clips where people think the show is purposely trying to disrupt the success and popularity of Toni and Shakira in the villa. The two clips of them as a pair involve them talking negatively about Meg and Dejon, as well as talking badly of Helena and Meg after the drama of this year’s movie night. The show hasn’t included many clips of Meg and Helena talking negatively about these two – despite the fact the split in the villa frequently shows both pairs slagging each other off equally.
This has resulted in viewers accusing Love Island of purposely trying to make Shakira and Toni look bad.
Last night, we saw the big twist that the show would be sending dumped Islanders Blu and Megan back in the villa. People think this is another way the show is trying to “sabotage” Shakira – as her now partner Conor had a thing with Megan before she was dumped. Her arrival will certainly twist things up for Shakira and Conor, since Conor and Megan never ended things and she’s been quite vocal at how shocked she’s been that he didn’t pine for her that much after she left.
When someone said that the show is probably not targeting Shakira and Toni personally as the pair of them did say the things in the Grafties clips, one fan replied “Notice how there’s no clips of much worse from much worse people. It’s weirdly targeted at Shakira and Toni and the fact they just brought back in the only girl who wants Conor [Megan] and can take him off Shakira.”
