‘It’s tough breaking up with someone you’ve known for 3.5 minutes’ — Pete Wicks throws savage shade at Love Island couples in front of co-host Sam Thompson, just six months after Maura Higgins split, as he mocks... - suong

Don't you just love it when celebs say what we're all thinking? Especially when its Pete Wicks and the topic is Love Island; NO, especially when he brutally comes for the show in front of his bestie/podcast co-host Sam Thompson who actually works for Love Island.

This is the kind of chaos we came for.

Now, don't get us wrong, we LOVE us some Love Island and our love for Love Island 2025 has been second to none, but we're forever sceptical about certain elements of the show's production. And it seems Pete is too...

Picture our eyes widening and us sipping tea from posh saucers.

On the most recent episode of the Staying Relevant podcast with Pete and Sam, Sam asked his bestie, 'What does life after Love Island look like for a lot of these couples then?', and honestly, the way our eyes our jaws dropped at Pete's answer...

With the most deadpan face (even for Pete Wicks), Pete replied, sarcastically, 'The first three months are going to be tough because they have to get to the end of those three month relationship contracts...'

Oop.

He continued, 'It's difficult, because when you can't stand them, you've then got to find a short-term tenancy agreement – you can't sign for a year because you know it's not gonna last this long. So you need to do it month by month and they're running out of those in London; Manchester is not bad for that sort of thing.'

He added, 'Because you've got loads of influencer events and things to do go to.'

Pete concluded by saying, 'I just want to put it out there though, when the inevitable break-up posts come through, please actually do respect their privacy. It's tough enough breaking up with someone you've known for 3.5 minutes, it doesn't need all of your opinions. Just respect their privacy, guys.'

It's safe to say, Pete probably won't be getting a phone call asking him follow in his former TOWIE co-star Joey Essex's footsteps as the next celebrity Love Island bombshell. At least anytime soon.

This is obviously all a bit tongue in cheek from the Staying Relevant boys, but from the looks of the comments on Instagram, many think Pete spoke some home truths.

One commenter, wrote, 'Everything Pete said is so true 😂. 'this is tough enough to breaking up with someone you've known for 3.5 minutes' SO TRUE OMG, we love a good old BUA 🫢. Pete is so sassy and so real for this 😂.'

Pete is known for his turbulent love life in the press. Last year, he was romantically linked to Maura Higgins, with whom he was seen sharing affectionate moments, though neither confirmed a formal relationship – aside from when Maura accused Pete of cheating. His relationship with Maura ended in early 2025.

A few months later, Pete was rumoured to be dating Love Island 2024 star Samantha Kenny, with reports indicating they had gone on a few dates and were hitting it off, although Samantha recently confirmed they were just friends.
