Intriguing Trade Proposal Emerges: New York Rangers To Land $13M Offensive Defenseman

A new intriguing trade proposal has just emerged regarding the New York Rangers landing a very unexpected $13 Million offensive defenseman this offseason, and it's truly something President and General Manager Chris Drury should consider.Mario Ferraro

The New York Rangers still need to strengthen their defensive core, despite just recently acquiring star defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov from the Los Angeles Kings this offseason during free agency. As they also traded away star defenseman K'Andre Miller to their division rivals, the Carolina Hurricanes.
Given the outcome of that trade, the New York Rangers could be searching for a defenseman who is already experienced in the National Hockey League. Which has created this trade proposal of the Rangers acquiring offensive defenseman Mario Ferraro from the San Jose Sharks.

Mario Ferraro

The San Jose Sharks' Mike Grier and GM Chris Drury are already trade partners, given the deal they've worked out with Barclay Goodrow, the relationship has been established.
So working out a trade shouldn't be an issue, especially considering how the Sharks are undergoing a youth movement and could really use one of the New York Rangers 2026 first-round draft pick.

Here's what the proposed trade could look like between the Rangers and Sharks:

Rangers acquire:

Mario Ferraro
2026 fourth-round pick (Florida)

Sharks acquire:

Carson Soucy
2026 first-round pick (Carolina)

The New York Rangers would acquire Ferraro who is in the final year of his deal, and has been surrounded by trade rumors. However, the Rangers would need to give up a first-round pick and an NHL defenseman to make the salary work.
Certainly this is a big return for the Sharks, but if the Rangers could trade Soucy, who is in his final year of his three-year, $9.75 million deal and would replace Ferraro in the Sharks lineup. and then could later be used as a trade chip at the deadline.
Farraro has recorded 5 goals and 12 assists for 17 points in 78 games this past season, but that was on a bad San Jose team. With the Rangers, he could be able to produce even more offensively.
