The Valley‘s Janet Caperna is speaking out after death threats from Bravo viewers caused her to lock her social media accounts — and leave the U.S.
Janet, 35, spoke to the Daily Mail on Thursday, July 3, about her decision to go to Switzerland with her husband, Jason Caperna, and their 18-month-old son, Cameron, as a result of the online abuse.
“It’s sad to me that people go this far, it’s definitely the worst part about this ‘job,’” she continued. “I’m learning how to put boundaries on social media in place and learning as I go.”
Her statement concluded, “I support healthy dialogue around reality TV and think some of the best conversations about modern culture stem from shows like ours.”
Janet has faced backlash since she joined season 1 of The Valley in 2024. After being accused of landing the show because she was a Vanderpump Rules fan, Janet continued to weather public dislike about her feud with Kristen Doute.
The targeted negativity continued when The Valley returned for season 2 in April. Janet initially remained silent but has since used her platform to call out the harassment on her “This Side of the Hill” podcast.
Janet’s podcast cohost Jared Lipscomb referenced specific messages during the Wednesday, July 2, episode, saying, “I’m gonna read a couple, and they’re really just not nice.”
One message that was read on the podcast said, “I hope you die a slow and painful death, you are so ugly. Are you actually a man? You are evil and I wish death upon you, you piece of s***.”
Another Bravo viewer wrote, “It’s a shame your son is still breathing you little [n-word] lover.”
Janet claimed that some trolls researched the names of her family members to mention them in their targeted messages.
“This isn’t constructive criticism,” she said on Wednesday. “I understand that I put my life out there and I’m gonna get comments, good and bad — this isn’t that. It makes me wonder, how many people throughout my day am I interacting with that are like this behind closed doors?”
She added, “Like, when I’m checking out at the grocery store, is that person messaging someone that they don’t like hate like this?”
Elsewhere in the podcast, Janet hinted that one of her costars interacted with the hateful messages.
“I had a former friend who responded to someone’s comment questioning the safety of my child, questioning whether I had a drinking problem,” she claimed. “This former friend decided to respond with a laughing, jokey emoji, and I’m so disappointed in that.”
