I’M A Celebrity star Jane Moore hit back last night after she was handed the cleaning duties – branding it "ageist and sexist".
New camp leaders, boxing champ Barry McGuigan and McFly star Danny Jones, were tasked with reassigning the chores, but tensions rose after they put Jane, 62, on washing up.
Once she discovered her fate, The Sun’s columnist – who has been paired with Tulisa, 36, was quick to ask: "Is that because we're women?"
Barry denied their gender influenced their decision, saying: "We were looking at you for possible water, and I thought that you're 62 years old, you're a year younger than me."
Before he finished his point, Jane branded his decision "ageist and sexist".
The Loose Women star pointed out that she has asked Danny to not put her on cleaning just before they went off to decide.
But the singer said he had misheard her and thought she had wanted to be assigned to the chore.
Those watching at home rushed to show their support for Jane, with one person writing: “I'd be annoyed too if I was so quickly ignored.”
A second commented: “Thing is, she was right. Barry literally chose women to do the less strenuous jobs, because they’re women. Agree with the reasoning or not, that was the reason and now he’s denying it.”
“She did say before they left not to give her the washing up tbf,” said a third.
While a fourth added: “It’s a small issue indeed, but I understand why she was annoyed. She did literally say she was fine with doing anything expect cleaning.”
And another agreed: “She was dead right. Women doing the washing and cleaning - it’s exactly what Barry wanted, Danny clocked it but let Barry decide.”
BBC Radio 1 presenter Dean McCullough tried to lead his fellow campmates to jokingly chant "we stand with Jane".
It didn’t go down well with Barry, who replied: "Don't start that nonsense. We didn't know that Jane was going to be upset."
Explaining why she was upset, Jane continued: "I have emptied the dunny, tended the fire on my own solidly for nine days, and you've given me the one job I don't want."
When she was asked what she would have liked to have done, she replied: "No, it doesn't matter."
During dinner time, the contestants noted that the new camp leaders were looking dejected and when asked why Barry said: "We don't like upsetting people, we genuinely don't."
Jane reassured Barry that she was "only winding him up" but later when washing the dishes, she said: "Seems much like the 1950s."
