Igor Shesterkin Shifts Blame Onto Himself For Performance This Season - suong

Igor Shesterkin demands perfection out of himself.

Fans may see Shesterkin making flashy saves while putting on a show each and every game, but that’s not what the 29-year-old goalie has seen in himself.

When talking about his performance this year, Shesterkin did not mince words as he feels there’s a higher gear he could reach.

“Not good so far,” Shesterkin said of his play. “We are battling for playoff spot, so we're working hard. Of course, last season, we were in a better spot than this year, but I think everything is in our hands.”

Earlier this season, Shesterkin signed an eight-year, $92 million contract extension with the Rangers, making him the highest-paid goalie in NHL history.

Peter Laviolette chose not to put any blame onto Shesterkin’s shoulders, instead emphasizing the importance of playing better in front of their superstar goalie.

“Sometimes goaltending is a reflection of the way the team's playing in front of you,” Laviolette said.

Shesterkin has recorded an 18-19-2 record, 2.87 goals against average and .906 save percentage, along with three shutouts.
