Igor Shesterkin's Camp Reportedly ‘Isn’t Pleased’ With Leaks About Contract

USATSI_23296468The Igor Shesterkin contract dilemma with the New York Rangers is heating up.

According to ESPN’s Kevin Weeks, Shesterkin turned down an eight-year, $88 million contract from the New York Rangers that would have made him the highest paid goalie in NHL history.

Now, Mollie Walker of The New York Post is reporting that Shesterkin is not too pleased with this leak about something that may or may not be true.

“Industry sources indicate that Shesterkin’s camp isn’t pleased by an apparent leak that was presumably designed to put pressure on Shesterkin,” Walker wrote. “The numbers reported — including an $11 million average annual value — have not been confirmed by The Post.”

With this report coming out, it really puts pressure on Shesterkin both to get a contract extension done quicker and play at an extremely high level in order to earn what he believes he’s worth.

This is the second negotiation between a goalie that has gone public as Jeremy Swaywan’s situation got messy, resulting in an added layer of pressure on the star goalie.

Despite a report stating the Rangers would stop negotiations until next summer if a deal is not reached by the start of the regular season, according to NHL insider Frank Seravalli, the Rangers are not fazed by the reported regular season deadline to strike a deal with Shesterkin.

It’s unclear if Shesterkin and the Rangers will continue working on an extension throughout the regular season or wait until next summer.
