“I walked out of that call thinking I didn’t have a job anymore.”
Carl Radke might be one of the most recognizable faces of Summer House, but according to a surprising revelation this week, even he isn’t immune to a little career whiplash — especially when it comes courtesy of Andy Cohen himself.
In a candid and slightly stunned interview on the Bitch Bible podcast, Carl opened up about a recent phone call with Andy that left him genuinely believing he had just been fired from the show that turned him into a Bravolebrity. The tone? “Very serious.” The message? Ambiguous at best — and utterly confusing at worst.
According to Carl, the call wasn’t scheduled as anything dramatic. It started out routine — a check-in, a conversation about the upcoming season. But it didn’t stay routine for long.
“Andy said something like, ‘We need to talk about next season and where things stand,’” Carl recalled. “I don’t know, maybe it was just his tone, or maybe I was already on edge. But for a second, I thought, ‘Oh my God. Is this it?’”
The tension only got worse from there. “He was just being super thoughtful, and I was reading into every word,” Carl said. “There was this long pause, and I swear to you, I felt my stomach drop.”
While Andy ultimately made it clear that Carl’s spot on Summer House wasn’t in jeopardy, the damage had already been done — at least emotionally. “I walked out of that call thinking I didn’t have a job anymore,” Carl admitted. “I texted my mom, my agent — I was spiraling. I even opened a LinkedIn tab!”
The bizarre moment comes during a fragile time for Carl, whose engagement — and dramatic breakup — with Lindsay Hubbard played out publicly, both on and off-screen. The couple’s called-off wedding became tabloid fodder, and insiders say Carl has been grappling with both emotional burnout and the pressure of living out his private life on camera.
“It’s been a really intense year,” he said. “So when Andy called, my brain just assumed the worst.”
Fans online were quick to weigh in, some sympathizing with Carl, while others couldn't help but laugh at the surreal nature of the mix-up. “Imagine Andy Cohen calling you and your first thought is: I’m unemployed,” one user tweeted. “Honestly relatable.”
Still, others pointed out that Carl’s reaction may be more telling of the current state of Summer House behind the scenes — where shifting dynamics, relationship breakdowns, and a wave of fan fatigue could spell changes to the core cast.
For now, Carl says he’s still on board and ready to return — assuming no more unexpected phone calls give him a panic attack. “I love the show,” he said. “Even when it’s messy, even when it hurts — it’s my story too. I’m not done yet.”
And as for Andy?
“He probably has no idea he almost gave me a heart attack,” Carl joked. “Next time, I’m sending him to voicemail.”
Whether it was an honest misunderstanding or an accidental preview of bigger cast shakeups to come, one thing’s for sure: in the world of reality TV, even a phone call can feel like a season finale cliffhanger.
