The Dallas Cowboys will have a healthy amount of competition this season in the race for the playoffs. And in a season that comes off of months of noise and distractions, as well as several departures and few imports for Dallas, there is every reason to believe that their best path to the playoffs may be as a wild card team.
If that is the case, then the Cowboys will be in fights with teams like the Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, Seattle Seahawks, Los Angeles Rams, and perhaps the Chicago Bears. And unfortunately for Green Bay, their star quarterback, Jordan Love, will be missing some time after sustaining an injury in Week 1.
Love sprained his MCL against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Cowboys had their season ended in the wild card round by Love and the Packers this past January. And while there is no official timetable for how long Love will be out, we can assume that four weeks will be the minimum. In the next four weeks, the Packers' schedule is as follows:
vs. Colts
at Titans
vs. Vikings
at Rams
The Packers' current backup is Malik Willis. If they don't make a move at quarterback, there is a real chance they start the season 0-5, which would obviously make their climb to the playoffs nearly impossible to complete. Even if they do sign someone like Ryan Tannehill, he will be coming off the couch, won't know the offense right away, and isn't Jordan Love. At best, the Packers split those games and are 2-3 after five weeks, and there is still no guarantee Love is back that soon. If Green Bay does struggle, that is a huge boost to Dallas' playoff hopes, as it can all but eliminate one of their biggest competitors.
