Speed kills.
And after dropping 26 pounds, Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jordan Davis has it (again). In fact, fellow defensive tackle Jalen Carter believes he is faster than him now.
“He’s getting slim. He’s running fast. I really think, I don’t want to get into too much, but I think JD’s faster than me,” Carter told reporters after Sunday’s training camp practice. “He’s moving fast. He was faster than me in college.”
peed was something that initially turned heads at the NFL Combine in 2022 when he clocked a 4.78-second 40-yard dash at 341 pounds.
He’s now down from 356 pounds to 330 pounds and feels like he can really get after the quarterback.
“I’m still that Jordan Davis,” Davis said. “I’m still gonna be that anchor. I’m still gonna be that same player. But knowing that with this new weight, I can do a lot more. I can move a lot more on passing reps. I’m gonna be expected to add that. And that’s just what’s been communicated with me from the top down. And honestly, I’m here for it. I’m ready for it. I’m just ready to go.”
Davis has struggled to live up to his first-round hype, but things started to turn the corner last year. He logged just one sack during the 2024 regular season, but then added two more in the playoffs, including one during the Eagles’ 40-22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.
Davis is well overdue for a sack monster season, and with a ton of weight (literally) off his shoulders, 2025 could finally be that year.
